Growing up on an inland lake in michigan my father has always had fast boats. like my dad I have the speed bug and been wanting a old style V-drive for a couple of years now. unfortuntly prices are more than i have or want spend so started looking for altenatives and I found www.glen-l.com I just recived the plans to build the "hot rod" my first boat from scratch using there blue prints looks to be fun and inexspensive to a degree plus it will look cool towing it by my 63 galaxie wagon plans call to have matching colors scemes

I just finished a restor on my '65 Stevens. You can see some pics in post #25 from last year. The Hemi came out and a Nailhead went in. Should be done soon and hopefully hit the lake next weekend!

Here is a Crackerbox ive been working on for about 3 years now. All marine ply encapsulated with epoxy resin inside and finished with cloth and epoxy outside. 305 SBC power, direct drive, no trans. other pic is my 87 checkmate 21' entertainer, 65-70 mph, 350 SBC 260 hp

LeadSledMerc, that is one of the most beautiful boats I have ever seen!!! Nice job. I would love to get an old 50's-60's glass boat to run around lake michigan on. My girls cousin and her man live down the street from us and they have an old glass boat behind their garage that was left by the previous owners. Its gutted, just a hull and a steering wheel but its a perfect size. It seems you can find a decent one around here for 1500-2000, not real familiar with boats to know how much work or money would be needed on them but most say they were in the water just last year...

Picked up this '58 Buehler Turbocraft awhile back. All the info I find indicates this was the first commercially available jet-boat, beginning in '59. Mine's registered as a '58...must be one of the first ones. It's got a '56 Olds 324 in it. Another back-burner project. Next (June 6-8) weekend is the annual Classic Wooden Boat Show in Arrowhead lake. I read somewhere a couple of months ago, that this year's theme is "Boats of the '40's". And, if I remember right, 2010's theme will be "Fiberglass boats". The Lake Arrowhead Boat Show is one show not to be missed. The Lake Arrowhead Antique and Classic Wooden Boat Show takes place annually and is a fun filled day for all the family. The boat show features sixty antique and classic wooden boats, displayed on the dockside of Lake Arrowhead Village where visitors can view the boats. The Lake Arrowhead Chamber of Commerce, Lake Arrowhead Village and the Arrowhead Lake Association all play a part in the event. The Outboard Motor Club and the Inland Nautical Society hold displays and the McKenzie Water Ski School will also hold a water ski show on Lake Arrowhead. The Antique and Classic Wooden Boat Show is the premier wooden boat show in California and is the only boat show that is judged. Lake Arrowhead's boat, show dates back more than 21 years. I'm looking for some history on an engine out of a hydroplane that ran in the late 40s It was built by Clay Smith it's a 59ab with Evans heads and intake. ( Drhotrodmd ) had a post on here of it running. I searched on the Vintage hydroplane site and found a boat Blitz 111 ( same as # on the block ) that was raced by a Bob Bogie of Saranac Lake, N.Y. in 1950 But tracing the history back by owners as far as I can I come up with it being bought from Clay Smith by an Alex Everhart who had it in a hydroplane named mighty might or possibly Mighty Mouse. Just thought that maybe someone reading this post would have some info on it.

Coolest place on earth is the Antique Boat Museum www.abm.org in Clayton NY up on the St. Lawrence River. You can even cruise the river in a replica Hacker-Craft. Check it out.

Here is what I got a couple of weeks ago, the boat, motor, and trailer have been totally restored. Early D&D Firberglass hull, Casale 14% over V-Drive (completely rebuilt), 392 Hemi with dual 4's on progressive linkage, .030 over, 331 heads, custom 9qt pan, new paint, new interior, wiring, 11.5x6 SS prop, trailer was taken down to bear metal and totally refurbished....etc. Can't wait to put her in the water!
I have 2 old runabouts that are set up for outboards. One has a Merc motor on it, both around 16' and both pretty rough, guessing early 60s, not sure. How could I find out????? Also have a '72 Hondo flatty with a one of a kind blown M/T Pontiac HEMI. The other is a '74 Rogers jet, also Pontiac powered.. More info on boats page of www.pontiacheaven.org
usually there is a hull id number in the upper right hand corner of the transom. the last 2 numbers signifies the year.
I've had the experience of pulling out stinky carpet and crumbling interior out of a bayliner and replacing it. Not something I'm in a hurry to do again!
Those are some real cool boats, guys. It looks like there's a bunch of hot rod boats in this thread...way too cool! Being on the east coast I never realized how many flat bottoms and fast boats there were around, until I started doing some research...WOW!
i've got an old albacore,uses sails for power,great boat a couple yrs ago; pulled up to launch;2 guys came over immediatly 0ne wanted details on boat---the other wanted details on the truck they both helped me launch,while my wife just chuckled
this local guy has been trying to sell this boat to me. I am not a boat type of guy but it looks like one of the boats on this site. Depending on the time of the month someone could probably score it for a couple of ben franklins. It is a funky thing. The steering wheel is more ornate than most of my christmas decorations.
