Dropping the tank on a '65 Bird

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rock 'n Roll DaddyO, Jun 7, 2008.

  1. I got a '65 bird that needs the gas tank dropped and boiled. I got the straps off, sending unit disconnected and the fuel line off. But the tank does not want to drop. Is there something I'm missing? The filler tube goes straight into the tank and is tight but moves when I move the tank. Any help woud be great.

When I did my 65, I had to take the filler tube out before the tank would come down.
It has a oring seal on the tank to seal the filler tube. I had to take a slide hammer and prybar with alot of break ease and after a day or two of soaking and awhole lot of banging and prying, it finally popped out and the tank came out. It is in there pretty far but once it breaks loose it will come out fine.
    Good luck.
