as all good HAMBers should know, there were no 3 window Model A's. which to me puts "Model A 5 window" right there next to "32 Deuce" or "chop-n-channel" for misused HOT ROD terms.

I see this all the time, just today I saw it again. not the most pressing issue facing car people today, but I just thought I'd see what others think. feel free to ad your own misused terms

    I've never seen a factory model a 3 window............

  5. Someone is gonna be responding that they did make a 3 window model "A". There was some obscure non-production 3 window that Ford did make but did not manufacture in any quantity greater than 1 or 2 units. It has been documented and pictures exist of the 3 window model "A". So I guess that the 5 window is technically correct buy I do crimge everytime I see it posted or said.

  6. Except of course this one EBAY Item number: 120270868773[IMG]

    I think I'll go puke now ....

And how about the ones who call all old cars "Roadsters"

  7. That one sentence alone says a lot.

Hot rodding is rife with misused terms... as are most things in life. I think you pick your battles and do your best to sort through the rest of it. Many times I'm finding I just don't have the time to care what someone else has determined to be correct. Let alone try to convince them otherwise.

if the car is chopped and channelled it is OK,, but it is one of those terms that civillians have heard and apply it to many cars which are neither chopped or channelled.

oh yeah... calling all old cars "roadsters" that is another one.

    Sport coupe...

    Coupe...

There is something called a sport coupe,
which had a semi-soft top and 3 windows.
I myself would call a sport coupe (3 windows)
a sport coupe, and a regular coupe (5 windows)
    a coupe.....some people call'em 3 and 5 windows???

To each his own, I guess

By the way, a chopping and channeling are 2 different
things, so that's a perfectly acceptable hotrod term to
me.......as long as the car is actually chopped and channeled

  11. And of course there was also the 28-29 Business Coupe

wow... way to miss a the point. chop-n-channel... people use it as if it were one word and they don't have a clue what either term means. if a car is chopped and channelled and a person refers to it in that manner then it is not word misuse.

as for my own personal HOT ROD knowledge, I know plenty thank you. been deep into this stuff since the 70's

In your original post, it seemed to indicate (or I read into it) that you believed that chopped-n-channeled was the same thing, ( like Model A 5 window, or 32 Duece) then you expained later that you only believed it to be "improper" if used to descibe a car that one or both was not performed....I then edited my post......excuuuse meeeee

I'd like to think I'm a good HAMBer, but I know that there are such things as 3 window Model A coupes....

  15. It makes me laugh every time I see user names that are 5window something or other and the are reffering to their model A.

a sport coupe is not a 3 window no matter how many windows it has.

Damn. Is there nothing more productive to talk about? It's almost like a room full of cranky old men talking about just what the color the sky really is or how many windows a Model A has ... no, wait... never mind.

This is the first time I had heard such a thing. I didn't realize that the Sport Coupe and the Coupe were different. Maybe it's a generational thing. I wasn't turning wrenches in the 70's and all I learn is stuff I pick up in my experience and here on the HAMB. I'm glad to have learned more, but I don't see why it's such a bone in so many craws. I'm glad to learn, I just wish I didn't have to be made to feel like an idiot for not knowing first.

The general populations misuse of the term Hotrod shits me to tears
but these things don't bug me as much as bad spelling and poor grammar.

What Gets Me The Most Is When Each Word Begins With A Capital As It Makes It Hard To Read.
Just typing that sentence took me twice as long as normal to type.

I certainly do not have the greatest literacy skills but just reading your post before clicking the "post quick reply" would help everyone.

Sorry for going OT, back to your scheduled thread.............

If you're gonna be picky let's make sure everyone refers to them by Ford's own titles. There's Standard, Special, Sport and Business coupes for 28-29 and Standard, Deluxe and Sport coupes for 30-31. I hope you're aware of the ALL the differences.

    This another misused term.
It should be WDF...... for what da fuck
    Does anybody actually say the???:D

  27. Hehehehehe......I don't know when probably turned into 'prolly' or 'probly' but it drives me crazy. Sometimes I close the thread it bothers me that much!

I have OCD and anger issues so I never mentioned it before. I also attended public school when you flunked (not 'held back') and spelling counted in all classes not just English. I thought I'd get that off my chest!

Now I'd like to redirect this thread to the "I'm sorry Post"......

    I'm sorry:(

I Think It's An Automatic Feature On The Board That If Your Entire Post Is In All Capital Letters, It Makes Every Letter Other Than The First Into Lower Case. I Don't See How Someone Can Be Smart Enough To Get Onto A Message Board But Not Know How To Hit The Caps Lock Button Before They Start Typing. Takes All Kinds.

Typed all the above in upper case. So, just consider the alternative...

This place is starting to sound like a woman's auxilary...the piss and moan club.

Now everybody get out their HAMB rule book and refer to page 103 paragraph 4. You're not allowed to say 5 window and Model A in the same sentence.

Tomorrow's lesson will be on the how much we hate red wheels...page 42 paragragh 1 in your rulebook!

Throw the rulebook out and build a car!!!!!

  30. Well said Clark thank you. I just get caught up in the drama sometimes. What page is complaining about car shows on? HA HA
