With all the floods in the midwest I was wondering how our compadres' were coping with the high water.

    Everyone OK?

We had some flooding Monday causing some evacuations, but the water is going down now. We came out better than some areas. We did the same thing only worse almost exactly one year ago. Seems like the weather is really acting crazy. Hope and pray everyone in the major flooding areas are out safely.

I live on high ground, but you can't get into our town from three sides. Most of the people at work have an extra half hour commute on detour roads.

Other towns (not mine) in Iowa have some major flooding.

Johnny Sparkle had a foot and a half of water in his garage in Terre Haute, IN. I think he lost his plasma cutter and a few other things. The Cisco Kid's '03 Vette was also in a foot and a half of water.

I had close to 13 inches of rain last week but I live up on a "hill" so all my junk is OK. It was interesting going to work last week though. I had to drive through at least a half mile of water each day and every day it was in different spots on the road.

As far as I know, flooding hasn't been too much of a problem in Omaha. We have had a ton of rain, though.

Part of town is still recovering from a tornado that hit around 2:30 AM on Saturday night/ Sunday morning. Luckily there weren't any lives lost and only minor inuries were reported.

I hope everyone else recovers ok from the flooding and tornadoes.

This one hit the Kearney, NE, area recently

We have evacuated the house and we are currently living in our camper. We expect to be there a month minimum. Our house is a split level so if the sump pump holds out and we don't loose power for any long periods of time we may have a house to come back to.

With the help of many friends we moved our good/project cars out but had to leave the parts cars behind.

The shop is already 2-3 feet deep. I'll be cleaning tools till next summer.

The really bad thing is that there are A LOT of people around here getting hit a lot worse than I am. They are talking about major highway bridges washing out.

I think it's time to move.

we are getting ready for the flood here on the ol mississippi. sandbags are out and the dikes have been formed on river dr.

I live away from the river so Im clear and dry but work has been taxing. They require overtime for flood duty because rednecks like to drive through the water and bring their kids down to play in the infested water.

I am north of the bad stuff in Indiana by about 60 miles and am really glad it didn't rain like that here. I live along a 100 year floodway/stream that would have likely been a foot or two deep in the house and garage. At least I have flood insurance. I suspect there are a lot of guys without it that got nailed south of Indy.

I met with a customer in Greenwood (about 65 miles south) yesterday and they told me that 6 of their employees lost their homes to water...

    ****s.

Sorry but that's pretty funny, I had someone not native to Oklahoma ask the other day what do we do when a tornado cames, and I said "Most of us run outside to look at it and take pictures on our cell phones".

Prayers go out to those that lost property or worse. Mother nature can be a cruel missress sometimes.

we saw it up close traveling friday evening. we were headed to Murdo SD to pickup a 53 Chevy Coe, and on I29 in Nebraska one went across the highway right behind us at mm 92 and flipped two semi trucks over. we were about 10 miles ahead of it. not nice at all, we sorta broke the speed limit when we spotted it coming!

not as strange as You might think, actually.

I read alot of semi-useless ****. mostly biographies and history type stuff. About 5 years ago, I found myself enraptured with a book called "Issacs storm" whch is about the "meteorogical agent" stationed in Galveston Bay during the hurricane...in 1900.

The weather he speaks of during that cycle was nothing short of horrific- crossing a ravine full of shocked fish, for example.

In Oklahoma, there were reports of "bowling ball sized hail"- enough of it to level homes and fill ditches and ravines. the next day, it was back to well over 100 degrees, which caused the hail to melt, which drastically changed the temperature of the stream water, and caused the fish to go into shock...400 miles SOUTH.

stories of tornados that so completely razed a small Texas town, that not only was there no survivors, but no sign of the town except for 2 wells near the town center. the rest of the site was described as "smooth, bare dirt."

The account of the hurricane, and what lead up to it was nothing short of Criminal. see, saying "It's gonna rain tomorrow" was borderline herecy, according to the national weather beaureau.
We figured out when a hurricane was blowing in by eyewitness accounts from sailors, Cuba, and a few other Islands in the Gulf.

One of those Islands had been inhabited by Monks for over 100 Years. Those particular monks taught themselves all of the "tell tale" signs of an impending Hurricane. They were in near constant contact with the florida weather stations.

shame that the hurricane that took out Galveston also completely removed that Island from the face of the planet. it's just GONE.

    point?

if You look at the known weather patterns of the last 200 or so Years, You will notice an alarming trend. the first 25 years or so of each century is marked with absolutely amazing weather. borderline catastrophic doomsday type ****. getting this Info before 1900 is a bit "hit and miss", as only really noteworthy events were written down at all.

It's cylical. creepy,Eh? this means we could also be looking at another Dust Bowl inside of a decade or so.

We're holding our own here in Waterloo, but the river took out a railroad bridge downtown. Five out of six bridges are closed to traffic, and parts of downtown are under an evac order. Cedar Falls is about the same, river started backing up through the storm sewer system into parts of downtown, but they had a damn good volunteer force out bagging, and held on through the crest.
Worst seems to be over, but weathermen are predicting as much as 6" rainfall up north, so we gotta stay on top of things around here.

Me, I'm up high enough that all of downtown would have to be about 40' under before it got here.

It is really bad around Omaha tonight - Tornadoes, hail, heavy rain, flooding in areas. A tornado hit a Boy Scout camp about 45 miles north of Omaha. There were 96 scouts there at the time and fatalaties and injuries have been reported.

I had the 33 down to bar in Winslow Il tonight for supper. They said that they are expecting it to flood tomorrow. They figure the water will be just under the bar counter top. I guess this happened in 1993 and they were showing me where the water was. I guess someone paddled a canoe through the front door back then.

Anyone know how Kevin aka Sutliff Fire is doing. Just at his place last week and wonder how his house is along the Cedar River?

A little h2o in the ba*****t but the sump pump is taking care of it. We had record rain fall in the black hills last month after 8 years of drought (lakes and streams are looking good)

Saturday a Tornado hit Richton Park , IL about 10 miles from here and it took some roof tops and fronts of buildings on Sauk Trail . We got a little rain and no winds at all . Heard from guys at work it went thru sounding like a frieght train across surounding towns . Tornados in this area are rare .

Downtown Cedar Rapids preparing to be under water tomorrow. 1993 was supposed to be the 100 flood. 15 yrs. later they are calling it the 500 yr. flood. What are the odds of that? Must be Al Gore's fault. He invented the internet and global warming...
