Tried the "make a wide whitewall " with the grinder

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 55chieftain, Jun 10, 2008.

  1. I drank from the hose when I was a kid...

Logic tell me that a tire engineer will put a little more extra structure, because he was told by the company lawyers that they don't want lawsuits... You can't tell me a new tire is only 1/32" away from failure when you put it on a car. Go ahead and try.

Liberal this, liberal that, it's all about the liberals with you isn't it? You can't shut up about it, I think you secretly want to be a liberal, I bet you dream about it.

ROTFLMAO. If you had any reading comprehension at all you would have realized I was slamming people who modify a product, haphazardly, and then when it fails they want to sue the company making the product. I think people should take responsibility for their actions...hardly a liberal stance.

My comment: So...when that tires blows out on the road and wrecks your car and hurts someone are you going to get a lawyer and sue the tire company?

BTW: What does my user name have to do with anything? Your user name "Gulfwarsubvet" is way more "off topic" on this site than mine if you want to argue semantics.

OMFG so nobody wants to talk about tires here I guess?

I have run a bunch of ground down tires, so have my friends. Nothing has happened me, or to any of us. Look at the cutaway pictured, you are not removing structure. Fucking enough already. By your logic nobody should drive on black wall tires, as they dont even HAVE that vulcanized white that us fools are lightly grinding down to make wide whites.

I am going down to the beach. In our 2000 Altima with blackwalls. Pray for me.

The only thin layer of rubber that has any significance removing or losing is the one on your weiner, I would rather have a blowout (which I won't ) than losing that in unknown territory.

No, tire patching vulcanizing compound does'nt hold it on properly, and could possibly cause too much friction between the porta walls and the sidewall of the tire. Rubber cement is'nt a good idea either. I tried this because the only guy I knew who could grind out some whitewalls on a machine for me sold his company and moved away.... So now, I have some really nice white letter tires with no way to make them into wide whites, lol...

I had a set done by a guy with a machine quite a few years back, I started with the crappy cheap tires from PepBoys, and when we were done, they were WAY cheap, and looked REALLY good. On top of that, I ran them for 4 years untill I finally wore out the fronts. I had big n littles, and the backs were still awesome. I dont care if anyone thinks I'm dumb for that, it worked for the income I had, and filled my needs exactly. Besides, if I had a blowout and got sued.... all they would have got was a wicked fast 69 plymouth valiant 4 door anyway, and who would want that? lol

wow this thread is still alive?..some people will never get it..But like I said earlier..go a head and spend that 800 bucks on tires..I'll spend 150 or less..and use the remaining on something else for my project..

and I have noticed all our "worked as an engineer" guy and "Were all gonna die" when they blow guys have been very quiet all of the sudden

  12. Better catch it before it gets away!

Using this logic my fingers shouldn't be safe anymore after I've trimmed my nails.

  13. You don't have anyway to make them into wide whites? Haven't you been paying attention!!! Hahaha. Grind them yourself. I even posted step by step instructions WITH pictures...

Theres no problem with using shaved WWW's on your SuperRatRoderefficRattleCanRod as long as you are protected by one of these all new Duke boys shirts. I understand they come in sizes large enough to fit even the fattest of Orca Bettys and for a limited time come with a coupon for a double order of fried Oreos at the local County Fair.

I ran across a similar thread from a few years ago http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46600 There is a reference to a machine to do this and I am hopeing the shop in denver can still do this. Anyone know what the best 15" tire is to get the biggest whitewall? Can you see or feel where the white stops under the black?

  23. Okay, so pictures are cool. BUT a video is even better. For all you non-believers or guys that still can't grasp how it can be done, this is for you.

Why is there blue stuff on the entire white wall, if you ground them?

    Duh, he bought them ground!

Unionvillehaunt correctly pointed out that it was MR. Spock we should speak to, not Dr. Spock,
Dr. Spock is the famous child psychologist who's dead anyway, and Mr. Spock is the Vulcan.

When the place that grinds them finished, they simply put the "blue stuff" on them. The "blue stuff" is there to keep the white wall protected from anything it may come into contact with during shipping/mounting. Grease, Dirt, etc...

  29. There is an old guy here in OKC (Simmons, I think is his name) thas a machine that spins the tire while on the car and he has some cutters made that cut away the outer black layer that all white wall tires have. Tire companies build the tires with a 2inch or better sidewall anyway and just expose the amount they want. Just dont cut past the white into black again and your okay.

Anyway I have heard, but cant find, a company that builds these machines. I have been told the guy even advertised here once. Would like to find one.

If any one know if the guy is still around in the OKC area I would like to contact him.
