1953...This "coupe" has a painted cardboard roof (really). Removing it lets this car also race in the "roadster" class...

This car represented the new breed of blown gas coupe that was emerging. In essence a funny car with the drive mounted to the left. The racers were trying to capitilze on the popularity of funnycars for promotional sake as well as borrowing their technology as a means of creating a faster gas powered race car. Purists hated them, and many fans considereed them as slow funnycars. Still, to me, they were cool as there is a unique sound rendered by a supercharged gas V8. BTW, the twin engine injected rail in the background is Leo Dunn, the venue Bakersfield

 

Thats it. Both the Fiat and the AMX were cool. The AMX was a handful at speed.
