People used to call my coupe a roadster all the time and to me a shoebox is a Ford, but another one that kind of gets to me is RPU...I don't know?...Whatever.

Around these parts apparently all of the old cars I work on are coupes. Even though I have never had a coupe. There is one or 2 people though that call everything a roadster.

  5. I would say 37 because Ford quite building 3 windows in 36.

Carps calls his Fordor sedan a "7 window coupe"

    Just for fun.

Sometimes people say things "wrong" just to see if you will squirm.

    Just for fun.

Like I'll say to someone with a small car like a Lotus; "That's cute! What do you feed it?"

Or, I usta walk past "The Pizz" house back in the early '90's and say to him about his already low '58 Chevy, "When ya gonna lower it?"

    Just for fun.

Life is short, have as much fun as ya can while ya can...

....but today you can buy a new '37 coupe body with a three window top.....so you now need to be more specific about '37s! :)

Ah but there are the long roof and short roof coupes. One was a business coupe, the other a sedan? I don't know...and then the hardtops....

What I do know, is that this is NOT a truck.

  20. What I usually run into is,some guy who says "I used to have a chopped and channeled Merc just like that". Then I say "it's not channeled!" "Yes it is! I know what i'm talking about! You're too young to know what I mean..."
Depending on what kind of mood i'm in, I usually debate the guys knowlege of Customs. So many guys don't know what Custom terms mean.
The "Tuner" guys call channeling, "body drop". WTF! Might as well call shaving "handle removal" or chopping,"roof drop". Can't tell you how many times i've heard a Tuner guy call his dumb fuckin "Lambo doors", Gulwing doors!
Here's another beauty! A guy tells the girl host on one of those Tuner shows, his Honda has a blown Acura motor. When the camera zooms in....it's turbocharged, LOL!!!! OH YEA! He said it was "Restored" too, HA HA HA!!!

  22. Ya but I'm talking steel Ford made. You can buy a plastic 3 window model A too, but that still don't make it right. Hell you can even buy a VW powered Ferrari but that sure as hell ain't right. Ford quite making them inn 36 so thats the cut off for me.

The other day a guy at the local parts house was going on and on about doing a "frame-off" restoration of his car.
When I asked him what kind of car, he proudly replied "Its a '65 Mustang". I told him that last time I checked Mustangs are uni-body (no actual frame). I just walked away when he started to argue the point.
Around here the civilians call anything without fenders a roadster.

Funny thing around here is, the civilians call anything older than 49 "the ole coupe". Sedan, Roadster, 4dr., 2dr., I work on alot of Ole Coupes. I finished a 37 Chevy 2dr. sdn. last week, and while test driving, some guy gives me a thumbs up and yells "Nice Coupe". I thumbed him back, and took it as a compliment.

Originally, the term "coupe" was used by the French to designate a car which had been "cut down" or reduced in size. So technically, "chopped coupe" is also redundant.
