My friend says that the snap-on moons don't stay on. Should I get screw ons for my model A sedan, or are snap-ons ok?
    Thanks

Go with Screw on. Snap ons do fall off.

Screw on for sure. Instead of three screws, I do six. Two screws right up next to each other on three spots on the wheel.

    Screw on only.
The snap on Moons have the wrong shape I think.
Stick out too far at the wheel edge.

We're all agreed, screw on are more traditional and fit the wheel better. And genuine Moon, why use a knock-off?

Snap-on discs look like hubcaps. Definately screw-ons. DON'T forget about the silicone in the holes,so it won't leak...

The snap on type get full of dents from punching them on.
They are mere copies of the real thing.

Screw on's are cool and do attract a lot of attention. I have 16 inchers on my '03 E250 Econoline extendavan that's lowered 5". I get tons of compliments on them.

The only problem I have seen is you only get about 50-60,000 miles out of a set. I have siliconed them on,(Biggest problem with siliconing them on real well, is they are hard to get off with out bending the tar out of the edges) bigger nylon washers behind the screws, the whole 9 yards. They do move and oblong the holes. When you least expect it, one shows up missing. Th erear ones get a good pounding from the winter salt and road grime. I switch them around so they look even.

I asked someone at Moon eyes abou the longevity of them. His reply was. "Dude. They are for show and race cars. We didn't intend them to go a hunnert thousand miles"

For the price, they can't be beat!!

    "Snap-ons" aren't Moons, they're hubcaps!

Screw-on or DZUS. The hub-caps were alternative and cheaper for the "Look" but just don't cut it on a ol'hot rod.

Could not agree more-had both and they are the REAL deal. If you use the screw on type, be careful to not screw them down too tight...it will distort the discs.

    Love 'em!

I'm swapping wheels Thursday and putting screw on discs on mine. I drilled another set of holes one inch over from the factory holes and will run 6 screws per disc. I also found some stainless steel 10-32 Pan Head screws that are just long enough to go through the disc and wheel without going into the tire. I'll put a little RTV in each screw hole before I mount them. My discs seat very flat against the rim so I don't think distortion will be an issue. I hope............

Friends don't let friends run snap-on discs. And Skate fink I wondered if I was the only one that remembered painting geometric patterns on moons. I've thought about doing that to my pickup's moons but just haven't worked up the nerve

The snap on ones didn't stay on 40 years ago when they were pretty common and it looks like they never fixed the problem. Plus as mentioned above they just have that fake look.

    Screw-ons with 3 extra screws.

I use stainless steel self-tapping screws with a built-in collar and Allen heads (from Fastenall). Don't be afraid to use a little Loc***e if need be.

Don't forget, they don't work well with real long valve stems (clearance issues). You might want to install the "shorty" stems before fitting on your discs.

Also, I mark mine on the insides to show which wheel they fit on, and which hole is closest to the valve stem. That way, all the holes line up perfectly each time.

Try hot glue instead of Silicone. The hot glue doesn't stick to the discs or wheels like the Silicone does, yet it provides some cushion and noise dampening.

Snap-ons? The just look goofy and are an embar***ment to Hot Rodding in general. They are the wheel cover equivilent of junk food. Convenient, but never really satisfying.

Does anyone know of any differences between the old Moon discs and newer ones. Sorry to Hijack. Some I understand were stamped differently.

By the way, screw on only.
