Just watched some NHRA qualifying and they said Scott was injured badly in a crash earlier today.Thoughts and prayers go out to Conrad and family.
I just heard from a friend who pits for a drag team that Scott didn't make it. Very sad news. Thoughts and Prayers go out to his family.
I just returned from ETOWN .... after his run .... Kalitta was on a good pass until there was a huge engine explosion as he neared the finish line. The explosion shredded the rear of the body, sending pieces high in the air. The car continued through the shutdown area at high speed, into the sand and through the net, still at high speed. Most could not see what happened after that, but there was a big ball of flame well past the sand pit, near the trees at the far end of the property.
RIP Scott Kalitta. I can't even believe I just typed that. What an F'ing shock. He was a bad ass. Deepest condolences to the entire Kalitta team, family and friends. Another huge huge loss for drag racing. I think I'm gonna go cry now.
What a terrible loss. Our thoughts & prayers are with the Kalitta team & family. It must have been a bad one, with the safety gear & precautions they have these days. Wow ......
ESPN2HD just showed a replay of the crash. Early in the pass, the back of the body was blown off the car, perhaps taking the chutes with it. From what I saw, he went into the short sand trap and hit the wall having barely slowed down. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Wonder what it's going to take for NHRA to get its act together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DziJdGwFQjU
I just heard the news here.I haven't seen tv all weekend, I looked for qualifying and nascar was on. My heart is broken ,The Kalitta's are drag racing. Connie was the first fuel dragster I saw run against Ivo at York in 63. My prayers are with Connie and Scott's family, God bless them.
I just saw the video and the shute was not opening all the way. it looked like it was starting to deploy after the body was off. im in total disbelief, these cars are getting way faster than the safety measures can handle. i think the NHRA should take a hard look at what they can do to prevent deaths at the end of the track from run away cars......my families prayers are with his family and his team. Very sad news. I'm not a drag racing guy so maybe I don't understand, but why is there a concrete wall at the end of that track?...shear madness. RIP Scott
