Distributor is in the front, no problem. Remote oil filter, no problem. Ch***is were the same for most GM platforms so the pan and anything else should clear anything a SBC would clear.

    There's one person chiming in.
Our 300 left the property last year so i can't look at it, sorry.
You could start another post but the big buzz on the board right now is about Scott Kalitta so don't expect much response for a bit.

    Thanks **** Dake..
figured it couldnt be too rough to do..
where is the Filter at on that engine BTW?
up front like a ford? or like the BB mopars?
No one knows of anyone whose got a Buick 310 wildcat in a 28 to 31 A?

I am trying to keep from "belly ****oning" my A engine bay..but theres nothing wrong with SBC's..just thought this would be different.
    evedently its really different.

I vote for keeping that Buick in one piece...that's a nice one in a model you don't run into very often...

Life is shorter for some rather than others.

Yes, he was doing something he liked and didn't have a lingering desease or something. Hopefully his family and friends take some comfort in that.

Oh.. if the Buick is decent.. I vote for keeping it together.

You could trade the buick for a finished 300 motor. Does the buick run and drive?

yep as far as i know it runs and drives..I plan on getting back out that way during the week and dealing with that end of it..just didnt want to bother the guy when i had no cash on me. I ran into this guy completly on a different arena, not car related..he just mentioned it to me before i left and i said sure lets look at it..and thats as far as i got with it.

Randy, don't be a fool. You've got a perfectly good Buick donor candidate in your driveway. Gut that stupid Roadblaster and stuff that in the A and keep the '66 for your 'other' Buick!

You're never going to sell that Roadblaster ANYWAY and it already has your 350 belly ****on motor!

Now that I've seen the pics, I wish I had the cash and an excuse to get Court a daily driver!!!

I think you'll like the car on its own actually. I have a '65 Skylark 300 and it's a great car. If you want, use the 300 for the A and drop a Buick 455 in the Special...best of both worlds!

yeah i know dan..but an LT-1 in that A just aint right..it needs something odd..but not in that way..
not to mention all the F-ing **** i would have to go thru electronically to put the LT-1 in that A, would have me pulling out what little hair I have left.. I want to keep it simple.
And If i dont get rid of my Roadboat..Ill keep cruzing it..its a great car and definetly not a doner.

It can be done with a little wiring help. Bill, the guy at work with the '69 Camaro, is working on doing just that.

It is a nice car but so is the '66. Let me do some hunting and I'll get back to you. I'm CERTAIN we can find something to fit the bill if you really think you need it. And I think you should have 3 pedals.

Now if this was 20 yrs ago what would you do???? I would have bought the car used what I wanted and parted the rest......and Im a buick guy saying this.....I also like the Idea of a 455 in that and would have an easier time parting with my money fot the 66 with a 455 than the original 300. and the ST-300 ****** ****s. yes manual ******s were offered all the way trough 79 to fit it.:)

P.S. the oil filter is on the T.C cover on rt. side, attached to the oil pump:)

He's going to look at a nailhead this afternoon. We did some Craigslist shopping and found one 4 miles from his house! Maybe that will change his mind OR give him ANOTHER car to buy...

I have way too many options..my mind is a buzz today..
The Nail head is a dam ***y engine..and is also freaking crazy in the high price fuel economy we have going on right now..But as usual Im behind the curve on this kinda ****..nothing new to me.
    I have at my disposal 327, 350, 440
    I can get 215, 300, 425, and 290
I got to go smell this 425 Nail Head..Ive always wanted one of those engines since the day i laid eyes on one ..like over 20 years ago..maybe this is my calling..?
    things that make you go..hummmm

    Too many choices.
    Been there.
Line up all those engines and ask yourself which one you would take if you could only take one. Factor in the cost of getting it going and keeping it going.
Make sure you can make it fit and afford to run it.
    That's the one.
    Simple, huh?
Sounds like nail head is calling though... ;)
    Good luck.

But the torque convertor will bolt into a switch pitch 400, more stall.

  21. I second that.

That little Special looks like a keeper to me, you don't see too many post cars and that one looks nice. The little 2bbl 300 is a runner for what it is. I stuck a 12 bolt posi with 4:10 gears behind one in a '67 in the late 80's, (I had to keep driving the car as I prepared to stick a 455 Stage 1 in it.) I abused the hell out of it for a couple months before I managed to blow it up. I was surprised how tough it was. Ran pretty well too, I managed to embarr*** a few " Hot Rod" V8 Maverick's and a Comaro or two with that tired old Buick engine. Hell, if I lived closer I'd be offering to help pull the engine so I could try and talk you out of your left overs.

I know I have seen A's with 300's or 340's in them in years past before the great homogenization of street rodding. I'm almost sure I've seen one recently. I hope somebody can help you out with some specific.

I Know you won't, but if you did end up putting a 455 in the Special you'll have to find a set of '67 GS 400 only cast frame supports and oil pan & pick up tube. They'll put the 455 where it needs to be so you can close the hood. I don't know how hard these parts are to come by nowadays but they used to be pretty scarce.
    Good luck making your decision.

well to tell the truth..im not really into the Buick..yes it is a nice car..but its the last thing i need right now is another project or car for that matter..but i would like the looks of that little 300 in my A.
maybe some ones got a homeless 455 to go in it once im done with it..if im lucky enough to get it or not..lifes full of choices..and im swimming in a bowl of engines right now..
    Life is good!

I am running the 300 in my model a project, You will have to recess the firewall about 2 1/4 inches to fit the engine in. Oil Filter will hit the frame, I am running the original frame. Transmission is muncie m20. This is just the engine mocked up, frame has been boxed up and the oil filter will have to be relocated. [IMG]

The Offy valve covers are easy... as for the engines, well I have a few just hanging around waiting for their turn...

lol.. but seriously, Nailheads aren't that hard to find... Just look for 64-66 full size Buicks. Usually the 4 doors are pretty cheap...

well if i do get the buick..the 300 is going to go in the A,
I dont have any use for the buick,(the car)..really i need another project like i need another hole in my head.
i dont want to get side tracked on something and not put my attention and focus on the A project.
i will be back out to visit the ol girl this week and talk more seriously to the owner. see where his head is at on value..go from there.

Could put a Buick 455 back in the special. I know it fits, lots of fun to drive too.
