I just rebuilt a Stromberg 2 bbl WWC. While trying to start the car (which wouldn't start) the carb started overflowing out the bowl vent. I thought I may had installed the float upside down, but when I looked, it was right side up. If anyone has an idea what the cause might be, I would appreciate hearing from you.
    Thanks

Sounds like too much fuel pump pressure. If the WWC is anything like the 97"s then 3# of pressure is about max.

the pump was not changed, in the rebuild. it is in a 361 engine, with stock fuel pumb and carb.

1-Float level to high.2- Float leaks and is full of gas. Shake it and if it sounds like
there is something inside, it may have gas in it.(br*** float) 3-Leak in needle
    valve and seat.

First idea a piece of something stuck in the float needle/seat. Second wrong ajustment on float. Third did the float get bent and is rubbing on the bowl?

Float is like new, no holes, dents, etc. the hight of the float if anything is low, but within specs. and alinement is good. Re-blew out orifices, but didn't get dirt. Anything else?

Lightly tap the carb were the needle and seat is---sounds like it's stuck.

Only 2 things 1 is the seat sealing to the carb body? 2 if so the the only thing left is some sort of problem with the needle seating area it's self. Just because it is new doesn't mean it can not be defective. Does the needle and seat look exactly the same as the old one? Length etc.

    LOL!

And I'll bet you've seen plenty that look like they've been used to hammer tent pegs with, too. :D

    This totally sounds like:

    A fuel Pressure Problem

    A needle/seat/float problem

I'm thinking the latter, as the former will cause the latter. Lightly tapping with a rubber mallet might help, but it's just as easy to pop the air horn off and make for damned sure it's all okay.

Be adventurous - try it on the car. Make sure to soak your gasket in a bowl full of hot water overnight to make it puff back up again, and make sure it's completely dry again before re-using it.

I think the needle slid off or came loose. It happens, sometimes. :)

Hey - I have a serious WW & WWC fetish (hence, my avatar) - post some pics, will ya?

What in the heck was the problem? Or did it just start working on it's own?

float gauge or dope gauge. hint....use as float gauge first and formost as float gauge, then use it has dope gauge.then putting it back together correctly shouldn't be a problem

Thats a good question. It was done very methodical to begin with, and every thing looked good when I opened it up again. The one thing that I saw and changed was, the location where the pump rod connects to the bowl vent valve (The lever that lifts and lowers that rubber lid). It was set in the slot furthest away from the lid instead of the center slot. The thing is that even though it was in the "first" slot before, the over flow (through that vent) never happened before. So I'm still curious myself to know, if you have any other ideas what caused it. But for now she runs better than ever, even though all the sputtering was due to either plugs or condenser. Not sure which since I changed them both while the motor was cool. It was 109 this weekend!!!!!
And I will post some pix for sure!

That's some weird ****e, man... but I think that all of us at one time or another have had stuff (especially carbs) just start working again for no apparent reason, with nothing being done to them save for being taken apart, then put back together again. :)
