You're welcome to your opinion, FWIW I wasn't referring to any other situation than this guy.

He asked the HAMB for assistance, got tons of free help from guys that get paid for their advice, and made money flipping a corvette. Now he tells us to kick rocks.

You can pat him on the back if you want, but I think the least he can do to repay the HAMB community is buy a membership with some of that 'vette flip money.

I'm no oldtimer on here and I can't give as much good advice or help as more experienced and smarter guys have given me, so I buy a membership to help keep the lights on.

What's his excuse?

I agree that he should have spilled the beans. He gets 7 pages of thread (interested HAMB members) and then refuses to tell the punch line to the joke he started to tell. Bad manners at the very least. From what I can tell, this board has a LONG memory and the dude needs to come clean.

I think you are wrong Earl. It would not have cost him a penny to satisfy the curiosity that HE developed here on the board. If he wanted his business to be between the flipper and the final mark, he should have kept his pictures and his questions about the value to himself. THEN he would be entitled to expect his privacy. But when you post this crap asking for help and then get everyone wondering about the car and finally tell them all to Fuk off, then he deserves every bit of crap he gets and then some. It's the internet. Post something on it and then deal with the results.

The fract that the values WERE all over the place is why this thread begs for a final $$ figure to buy and sell it so that everyone KNOWS the value and how close they were or were not.

I'm thinking of a number from one to ten. I'm not telling you.
What sense does that make?

5. The end where he acts like a dick is where I have a problem with it, no need to be like that when folks went out of their way to be helpful.

I'd make it run and drive it to those corvette club meetings

Back in the 70s about 200 Vettes would come through town on the way to the rally in Spearfish, S.D. I still remember a straight axle 56-57 gasser that came all the way from back east somewhere, and driving all the way. Nowdays anything old enough to have chrome bumpers comes on trailers.

9. He probably doesn't want to hear a bunch of shit from the $500-$1000 guys - and I don't blame him one bit, I've had enough of those assholes to last a lifetime.

And uh, if you read one more post up from his post that got so many panties in a bunch, I'm responsible for the crack pipe thing - I see no reason to rag the guy for telling the two or three blooming idiots who posted, that they're blooming idiots. That doesn't mean he insulted everyone who posted... drama much? Sheesh!

The bright side: at least the body doesn't have any rust...

Hey, he probably didn't tell because the $500 uys would laugh at him for spending $1,500. Bottom line, it's saved...right? Cool find, I want to see it finished...

So, after all of the posts, what did we decide the car was worth? I'll bet he paid somewhere between the low and high figures quoted here, that was somewhere around $500.00 to $10,000.00 wasn't it?
And I've got to agree that it's no one's business but his.
I appreciate him posting another old car to look at.

Guys, tell me you didn’t see this coming?

It is a-holes like this dude that have screwed up this hobby/industry.
They spend their days slithering around folks yards looking for a steal they can screw the owner’s out of and then repay the favor to some car lover with too much available cash. :(
They take advantage of the owner who just wants their old gem taken care of by someone that claims to love the car and promises to bring it back to life, then palms it off to some poor guy that falls in love with it and isn’t thinking straight. F’ing middlemen hucksters.
<O:p</O:p
You should at least be glad that you are not his “friend” or his neighbor!

14. I think many of you angry fools missed the fact that he said he got a screaming deal AND PASSED IT ON TO HIS FRIEND!
I think that's pretty admirable, he didn't make money on it and didn't screw someone so WTF

I got a screamin deal on the Brooklyn Bridge, connecting scenic Brooklyn with NYC. Think about the investment!

Now, FRIEND, its your lucky day, and I will pass the SAVINGS on to you! :D :D

LOL, and nevermind what i paid for it...it was the same deal you're getting... wink, wink.

Hey, I agree that flippers have somewhat ruined the hobby, just the same as big-check-writers who HAVE to have it at any cost so it can sit in their glass, garage type, hermetically sealed enclosure and appreciate until the next Barret-Jackson auction, but on the other hand everyone's gotta make a buck to keep food on the table. Those in it for the just MONEY don't get it...and they never will. We know how to enjoy our cars for what they are, not what they're worth. I'd rather have something I drive and enjoy than just another acquisition to stack on the top of my backyard buddy in my museum out behind the house. Let 'em flip them, at least they'll be saved, and let 'em collect them, it'll save them for the day that our kids and grandkids will be able to drive them.

I read this whole post and it sounds like 460 willy flipped some old hot rod parts and made some money. When Povertyflats does it, he is a hero. When 460 willy does it he is an ass. Man, I just don’t get it. It's like a bunch of girls around here.

22. I spent an hour reading this and no payoff? Why the big secret? Even if he bought it for a dollar, it would still be worth whatever someone else is willing to pay for it. He doesn't even own the fucking thing any more. He doesn't need to say what he sold it for. I bet he didn't make his buddy such a good deal afterall, and doesn't want him to find out.

I didn't read this whole Thread, and it doesn't sound like I missed much...

But I do like Vette Gassers.

24. Posts like this make me want to go out and find a dozen cool cars and flip them all next week. I've flipped plenty in the past and you know, just about every damned one of them would have been shredded on a boat to China a long time ago if I hadn't stepped up. If I hadn't flipped some of them, I wouldn't have even been able to save the others.

Fact: If I buy something for a price the seller sets or agrees to, everyone is happy, no one got screwed. I didn't hold a gun to his head and force him to sell it to me cheap.

Fact: If I sell the same thing to someone else for a vastly different price, and the buyer is happy to pay it, no one got screwed. I didn't hold a gun to his head to force him to pay me that price.

Fact: If I buy something and no one will buy it at the price I want, that's my problem. Not every flip is easy or happens overnight.

People who post this kind of stuff are just mad and jealous they didn't find it first, that's what it boils down to. Like someone else said in another post, it's like a bunch of girls on here.

Who cares really? Glad somebody can actually make a buck on old cars. Looked like almost a total pile of crap to me and I wouldn't have given him $20 for it.

But, whatever, here is where I suspect a little BS that might be what is rubbing some people the wrong way: 'and passed the deal onto my friend". Please stop lying. How dumb do you think we are? If whoever really was your friend, you would have just let them buy the car that you found directly from the seller if you don't want it for yourself and you would just help him with the deal as friend. You don't buy it and then pass it on to him. That is just pretty unlikely. Buy a car cheap and sell it for more, great, good. Saved a car and made some bucks in the process - admirable. For better or worse, that is capitalism folks. But, don't give some lame, pretty unlikely excuse on the internet to make it seem better.

30. Have to disagree. A few years ago I bought an Econoline pickup. Told a Friend about it and emailed him a picture. He said he Had to have it. So I said fine give me the 5 grand I paid and it's yours! I hadn't even picked it up yet, in fact he was going to go to Rapid City and get it for me before deciding to buy it. Didn't make a dime on it. It's called friendship!
