Arizona HAMBR'S HOOK ME UP!!

O.k Arizona Hambr's,
Me and a buddy decided that we are leaving this friday heading to the grand canyon on our Harleys. We will be arriving in El Paso by Saturday night and then heading up to Globe, AZ and possibly all the way up to the Grand Canyon if we make good enough time. From this point, we have nothing else to do, so if you all have any special attractions, hot rod shows, or even some nice scenic routes, hook me up so i can plan my trip. I've never driven through the Arizona territory. Thanks up front for any suggestions.

 

Bbob- remember one thing, Homie- even though it is freakishly hot during the daytime, it gets equally damn cold at night. Bring a decent Leather.

 

The Grand Canyon is cool with good hotels all over. Flagstaff is on route 66 and the monte vista hotel is one of the oldest ones there and has a good bar down stairs. If you make it to phoenix let us know there tons of stuff here just dam hot Today it was 112 and will be 112-115 this weekend. At the grand canyon it was in the 80's

No prob,I got first hand advice from my wife.Her and her father took a 12 day ride last year up the same path and i got daily reports.When thay arrived in Las Vegas i had a care pack that included preperation-h botteled water and a airflight ticket offer ofco**** she did not use it THE ARLINE TICKET...LOLOLO

 

Jerome AZ isn't too far I don't think, they have a really cool train ride... and you could stop by the museum they have with all the cool old cars/trucks, kindof a boneyard.

If you like scenic, cruise through Oak Creek Canyon on the way down to Jerome. I'm a bit west of there, but just moved here from Cali, so don't know all the area yet.

I agree that a trip up to Jerome would be on the list, you just have to make the time to come up or down the back way toward Prescott. It is one of my favorite roads in the state, and Prescott is a nice town also.

 

If you get stuck in the furnace, aka valley of the sun on saturday afternoon/evening, stop by the Pavillions Car Show just west of Rt 101 in Scottsdale at the Indian Bend Exit. Longest running continuous car show in America (every Saturday). There is a mix of EVERYTHING there.

Don't forget about Hidden Valley auto parts just outside of Maricopa. He has lots of fine Arizona tin and his prices reflect that also. Jerome is worth the trip....you can check out the sinking jail and a cool copper mine. The ride through Globe is awesome especially on bikes, you'll love it!! Have fun.

I've been on most every road on the bikes or rods...amazin...

 

sun block, and cover your face well or you will be blistered. i know from experiance, dont know about the rest of az but here in havasu are riding season usually ends in the summer cause you will fry your nuts if you leave your bike in the sun for more than 5 mins.

if you have the room bring a cover for your bike so atleast when you hop back on you dont blister your hands.

 

I'm with Docc, check out Alpine/route 666. You'd have to go North at the AZ border but it's worth it. Best motorcycle road I have ever been on. I've got 60,000 miles on my motorcycle so I know that 666 is one of the best in AZ. You will probably end up skipping Phoenix but during this time a year on a motorcycle- you aren't missing much.

If you don't do that, you can go through Salt River Canyon, then Globe/Miami and through Superior... once you hit Gold Canyon/Apache Junction take a trip to Tortilla Flat. It's part of the Apache Trail or something like that. Great food and an nice ride.

 

If you go up that way..some great yards just outside Springerville..loads of 50s..
You can see right up close on the road..some excellent tin..
