The past almost four months have ben devoted to the body work on this car. This is it. I'm DONE. This car has been blocked within an inch of its life.

Tomorrow is major shop cleansing, masking and taping. Monday morning is sealer, black base then shiny clear.

Someone always asks for the before pic, so here it is. (yes, the same damn pic you have seen a million times)

    Wish me luck, -Abone.

    Best of luck!!
I remember doing that to my 53...and now with the truck i'm building..although the truck is nothing more than a smooth it out to paint thing...either way, it's a lot of work!
The car look's great...and is a PERFECT example of what can be done with a 'forgotten' car..
AND, it's great to hear it'll be shiny, and black!

That is going to look spectacular, can't wait. BTW, be sure to keep an album of the build in the glove box so you can show those who ask "what did you start with". It's a rags to riches story if there ever was one.

Thats insane, most people (including myself) would walk away from a project of this magnitude before it even started. We've watched it transform into one of the coolest Mercs ever, and now its ready for shiny black paint. It doesn't get any better than this!

  11. Looks amazing. Mine is still getting stripped of the current red/yellow motif.

  12. Shiney black chopped mercs are for girls!!!!!!!! Keep us posted!! ETHER

    That's a beautiful car. You're lucky.

The first car I block-sanded with an oak one-by-two was a rat-powered '57 Nomad in Hemet, California. It took me a week to do the entire car three times. When we rolled it out of the spray booth and took the tape off, I watched my reflection as I walked by the car from end to end. It was the straightest car any of us had ever seen. It's amazing what you can do if you try.

You didn't ask, but if it was mine I'd just paint it one solid dark color, and let the lines of the car do the talking.

Geat flow on that chop. The proportions are fantastic. Can't wait to see it all shiny. Kick ass.

Looks terrefic!! Reminds me of my first paint job on a '23 T-bucket. I had a friend that came by every day to check on me. I valued his judgement and waited each day to give the ok. He would say "You're getting there." After a month, mind you this was just the body, a group of friends came with him and one said "Man, that is smooth, when are you going to paint?"

I said "I'm waiting for David to give me the ok." and David said "I wondered when you were going to stop sanding."

Needless to say it was verrrrrrrry smooth and came out great! Just like yours!!!

I just got done working, and will now shower. Then I will go to my favorite bar. The first beer is dedicated to your work ethic. The second beer is hoping it is contagious! Kickass man!

(The skirts do make it tho) :D
