Has anyone made a x-member to tie the two rails together? Kinda freaky revving the engine and the floor lifting

I did one with a friend and we jacked it up and went up from the bottom. I had a 350 in an econoline van last year and it was terrifying to drive. Stock brakes and suspension. Now I've got the pickup with the old race motor and I'm sure it's a handful too. I do know for a fact that the owner put that engine in through the bottom too.

Mine was so tweaked up when I got it I wasn't sure it could be brought back

I got it back to looking alright, but I'm no pro bodyman and I was was shakey about how close the opening had to be for the front windshield to fit

Well the glass guys came today, and the glass fit like a glove. I'm a happy boy! I was just sure it'd be a real goddam mess. Another couple weeks and I've got a new shop truck.

What year is your van? I bought one new in 1972 during the big van craze, well I also had 3 little kids then and that van sure came in handy.
    I wouldn't mind having another one now!

The van is a '73 3/4 ton. It has a 302 w/ auto. 3 seats in back. Super solid, but could use a paint job and some weatherstrip. I have the original wheels also. It may be for sale soon. I will be listing it for 3k.

    Congratulations, Chaz! Nice work!

Frank, you can take the motor out through the top or bottom. I dropped the 6 out through the bottom because it was so tall, but dropped the 302 in from the top.

Mr T. you must be looking at a 61-64 Econo with the weird sheetmetal mounts. For a v8 swap you need the 65-67 tubular crossmember that does tie the frames together better. Lots of articles on the swap

My brother just got back from Hong Kong and on the plane he was reading some Euro car mag (Boost?) and in it there was an article about some weird race series back in the 1960's that had 427 side oilers in econoline vans doing road racing. I'm not making this up. Apparently it was John Player or somebody like that. They made and raced seven vans and none are known to survive. WTF???

Also, check out this bitchin Taunus on Ebay...

Nice and straight but a little (surface) rusty. Going with a 200/C-4 combo.

Got the rt frame rail repaired Saturday and finished the interior yesterday. Put a beige/brown shag in (have you tried to find shag lately?) with panelling on the walls. Finished it off by making him a "Keep on Truckin'..." decal from vinyl for the back window. You know... the guy with his foot out? Should be a kick in the ass at his high school's car show next weekend. In a sea of spoiled rich kids with Beemers and Audis, it'll be "different".:D

My all-time FIRST hamb post... I'm picking up my running, driving 65 e100 tomorrow morning. Got it for the tune of $600, nearly all there, really straight, nice tires partial new brakes job, tight steering, great shifting, starts right up, but yeah it needs love. Gotta figure out the pic-post routine. Later-

It seems like EVERY time I see vans or parts for sale, they're in WA, OR, or CA, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding parts. I think all the hippies... and their vans... stayed in the Pac NW. :D

Dont have one, but saw this one at a pick-n-pull in Dallas, Texas, yesterday if anyone around here needs parts for one. It's actually a Falcon, said it was a '66, it has an extended back. Almost perfect - no dents, no rust, everthings still on it.

This is a big week for our Strange Days shop truck. The truck is in the paint shop and getting sprayed tomorrow, and the seats are back from the upholsterer. They're a dark grey 'hyde with diamond tufts. The thing in the foreground is the engine cover I made. The front half can be used as a seat in a pinch, and the back half is a tabletop. Visors are tufted, too. Its come a long way from here.

Is any one interested in a rust free 65 5 window econoline truck , just no eng or trans, but everything else is very complete. Been sitting for years, but not even a dent or rack in any window. I bought it for $2K a year ago with big plans of putting a straight 4 cummins turbo diesel, but divorce forces sale, so my loss is your gain. I'm needing about $1600 for it. Need it gone quick. If you know you're way around these trucks, you will not be dissapointed. Its pretty much all there incl a second wire loom. I also have radiator and drive shaft along with just about everything else needed to make the eng and trans a quick simple install. DID I MENTION IT HAS AN ORIGINAL TAILGATE IN PERFECT SHAPE!!!
