Hey Lady, All the main Interstate and highway roads roads are open. Before I forget - There is a new ( less than a year old) motel RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE FAIRGROUNDS. A ECONOLODGE motel. A little change this year will actually be at the fairgrounds. They have paved a lot more of the dirt lot behind the Big Varied Industries building which is the ones with all the vendors. The lot actually took up the road that snaked around the back end, so now when it curves around it actualy takes you into a parking lot. I wonder how cruising will go actually. Rumer has it that they will be busting there *** all week to get some type of road around to the 4 H building and over to the east side main cruise street. My suggestion to everyone is when you check into the Goodguys tent on the north end lot on Thursday ( for most people anyway), take the time to drive around the back side of the fair grounds where you would nornally do the loop cruise. For those who plan to arrive on Friday - well be prepared for change on the back side of the cruise roads. I'm anxious to see myself how cruising will work. Yes - Cob will be there, and looking forward to see all of ya again or meeting newbies. Cob Cl***ifieds Moderator
I may or may not be going now due to unfortunate cir***stances. The car most definitely will not be making the trip. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=275101
Cob, glad to see you'll be there, always good to talk with ya. TudorChevy, your little truck is kick-***. Look foward to seein it in person. Gary
Lil John and I will be there for sure. Maybe Rancid too unless he wants to miss the first one since he started going in 96.
I'm planning to be there........first long road trip for the '34. Looks like good cruizin weather. Where do you enter the grounds with car, I'm pre-registered. Shifty, sure hope I don't need to take you up on the help offer, but pm'd you just in case.
I believe you'll want to enter at the North entrance. If I remember correctly that's also where the entrance is for those who still need to register. There will be signs. Price is always the worst part about Goodguys shows (in my opinion). I believe to register your car for the weekend it's $50. Spectators pay $17 a day.. but I believe you can get a weekend p*** for a better deal, and I heard the Des Moines Napa stores are selling discounted tickets, but I'm unsure for how long, I haven't checked it out yet. On a side note - Iowa went smoke-free today. I'm not sure if this means you can't smoke inside the fairgrounds anymore or not... anyone know?
I found something by googling online that said that you CAN still smoke at the fairgrounds, however, it seems like the rules are always changing, so I'm not 100% sure. Either way it should be a great time. Greg and I will be there most of the day Saturday, so we should be down for 1:00pm on the north porch of the Admin building. Look forward to seeing everyone!
I plan on being there in my Yeller 55 Chevy again. Jim, are you and Lonnie coming this year? What will you be driving this year as you guys both sold your g***ers this past year. Hope to see you there!
There were a lot of concrete trucks congregating at the west entrance to the fairgrounds today. so there must be some kind of paving going on. I heard on the news that the fairgrounds is one of the places exempted from the law along with casinos for now. I heard there were probably going to be lawsuits filed about the casino exemption.
Megan and I might be, depending on what time she gets her **** here and we leave. I'm hoping she's here in Detroit Wed night so we can leave first thing Thursday morning and drive satraight there. She might not leave till noonish which puts her at my place at 4ish or so on Thursday, we'd drive to west of Chicago somewhere then leave Friday morning heading westward. I'll PM you when I know for sure what time/day we'll be in the Chicago area and maybe we can hook up for the rest of the drive.
I will be there with the Frazer and also bringing my nephew along...His first car show of any size...12y/o and not a clue
Sams not gonna make this one. I wish he was, just me and the misses so I'll be on my almost best behavior
What you mean? Car parts or wives? Russco said it was just him and his wife. Then you ask about swapin. lol
Yes, there is usually a swap meet with this Goodguys event... I think Poverty Flats was actually vending there last year. Hope to see ya there, Todd!
"Car Killer" Cal from Council Bluffs is usually there too. Back in the day when I had semi loads of NOS speed and custom parts ("Car Killer" Cal will vouch for BTW), I had a pair of NOS M+H Racemasters slicks with the big side scallops that were 7.00X15. Thin and hard as a rock but cool as hell...anyway G.G. Gary Meadors walks up and buys them on the spot to put under his old Hot Rod Nash. The guy had a smile so friggin big you'd think he just had his first piece of ***. Had the top open on the NASH all weekend with the Slicks in the back seat. I miss swapping for sure, but the old stuff is so hard to find anymore. Cob
