I decided to go fenderless... The top pic is the most recent... I chopped the doors but no pics yet.

Plans to Make a searing col. out of tubing with Press in bearings and 3/4 round stock, chop the bed and frame down 25"

  6. I love these trucks, but I don't understand a couple of things:

    1) Volare front clip? These are great, unless...

    2) You decided to go fenderless...Just wondering why?

You didn't ask my opinion, so I responded with questions to avoid coming off like an opinionated dick...Just wondering what led to the decision?

The Volare' was done when the truck was still gonna have fenders... Eventually after its all done I'm going to I-beam the front and stretch it out infront of the grill like 8" Suicide style with airbags instead of a leaf spring. and i'm going to Z the rear end up like 12" and make the body sit on the ground. By removing the leaf in the back i can put bags in where the shocks go... So yeah it will get there eventually. right now i just want to get it running.

I'm curious as to why everyone hates IFS so much I mean correct me if I'm wrong but many "Vintage" cars had them? Yes Granted they ran fenders but I kinda think they a cool how "techy" they are. Indian Larry once said "I like my bikes to have a mechanical look because they are machines!"

I can draw it on a post-it note!

Long story short i bought the frame from a buddy and the suspention work was done already.

when i Z the rear it will take approx. 10" out of the wheelbase I'm going to make that up by pushing the front axel out past the grill...

My confusion was not so much, "what does he mean, Z the Frame" , as much as the mono front air bag plan up front, and i guess the over all concept here. I suppose it is possable, like most projects, that it will turn out well...but from what i've seen 1950's full sized picup truck cabs are a bit bulbase and over sized to pull off the, open wheeled "Hot rod" look. But Thats just my Opinion.

its a constant evolution and I may swap out the cab if I come across an older one... But right now I've got to finish getting it registered and get it running... thats it for now

Good luck with your project and don't be afraid to post more progress pics, Do it right and proove us wrong.:)

  16. I don't hate IFS, in fact I run a tubular-armed MII on my avatar '60. However, to be honest I wish I had kept the I-beam. I could have saved thousands of dollars in parts, and I liked the way it drove. That's another story...

The general feeling I get from observing opinions on IFS is, by the time it started arriving on cars (late 1930's GM?) the fenderless look doesn't really meet with approval. Most folks don't get much grief over IFS if the set-up is covered with fenders...

I just have a hard time warming up to a fenderless F-1, because they're done so badly by so many people (see other posts above) and they look so clean with fenders.

Good luck with your build though, and keep on posting progress pics...

    BRT...

  17. This one is excluded from my comment about trucks done badly... I don't love it, but that's just me...the other two are FUGLY...

It's your call either way and this is the good 'ol USA so build on to your desire. But do you still have your fenders? I need lower cheek pieces for the front of mine.

    Thanks,
    Tim

After a long delay i got back to working yesterday and just when i got on a roll I broke my Sawz-all and burned through my last cutting disk... so this is as far as i got... Cut the bed floor out (wood and a sheet metal plate over it) chopped down and channeled the bed and cut out one wheel well.

I need to get some square stock and weld in the bed floor next...

I'd like to Z the frame right behind the Cab and take another 10" out of the bed but its gonna have to wait till after it gets running.

run bags...keep the clip....just keep the fenders on!!! these trucks look great when they have a chopped top and are slightly lowered....you'll save a shitload of $$$.....money that could be saved for a hotrod cab/parts....it's not too late.
