do it!!! $300 would buy parts ,gas what ever......having a ride in a mag is cool ..even if its not the one you like best...

  2. Do whatcha want but consider this...being in print gives your car a traceable undeniable history...my buddy has a barn find 32 pickup...he was guessing it was probably built in the 50's but didn't care he was just happy to have the truck...bought it for 5500 bux...got it running and started getting offers around 18K...then one of our pinstripe buddy's told him, "hey I know that car" and he started thumbing through some books and there it is in front of Roth's shop 50 years ago...well now that he knows the history and others do to he has received offers from people in the 50K range...he won't sell it...we'll probably bury him in it...but the point is it begins your time line in the public eye...use them for the publicity for you never know when you are gonna need the bux and the 300 comes in handy now and the extra equity created by having already been in a mag will make some rich little yuppie offspring beg daddy to access his trust fund money to have it...besides very few magazines are cover to cover gems...just like these threads...some are good and some are bad but you take the info and inspiration when you can find it

A magazine is only as bad as the cars that are in it.

You guys sound like a bunch of "holier-than-thou" street rodders. LOL

"I wouldn't allow my car to be in one of those mags!" What a crock of shit. Do you really think that you are so god damned important that people will look down on you for your car being in a magazine, regardless of what magazine it is in? And if you do... Do you really think those opinions should matter?

Years ago a small pic of my roadster was in Street Rodder from a very large local-ish show. They devoted 12 pics from that show to the article and the car attendance was over 5400 that year. Do you think I was "mad" that they picked a car that I build under a car port at the house I was renting at the time and shot with a spray can? Hell no. I was honored that they chose my POS over other rods that easily had over 6 figures in to them.

Many people here choose to look down thier noses at other car styles and builds. Everything from super clean and detailed to a rusted POS that shouldn't even be on the road. It's funny how the people many of us openly deem "not worthy" are the same people that look down on us. It sure does seem like we are getting that "street rodder mentality" that drove us away from those exact people.

  5. Woah! Guys! its a photo for a contest for crying out loud!. it isnt a feature, who cares!, sure, they shoot some "non hamb" savvy "rat rods" and joe public assumes our cars fall into this but sometimes you can find some tasteful cars featured. i cant go as far as standing up/defending all these magazines some of you guys are writing off, cos simply we dont get them over here on our newstands. but some of the ones we do get (osr and ckd) and im just glad i can pick something up that ill enjoy. ill buy a magazine sometimes purely for a single picture in the magazine of something that i like or could use for an influence in my own car build.
bottom line, elvisaurusrex: im sure you'll make your friends day if she gets her work in a magazine be a sport and give her her first break.

Looks like we have a bunch of closet OSR readers.
cash is cash right? I'm hearing that allot.
Then pull your butt checks apart and make some money from a gay magazine. Shit you could make more summer cash, giving hand jobs in the mens bathroom at the bus station, and you still would not be as gay as this thread.

who the fuck cares, do what you want!

Whoa here partner, i for one dont hate any magazine and certainly dont hate OSR's .
    The term everyone is incorrect!!
If i had a dislike for any mags it would be something like this:

    Hot rods and trailers
    Glass is class
Gold chains and white shoes for your hot rod
Rods love them and dont drive them
Places to park your hot rod in the rain etc,

But i would more than likely read them anyway............:D

  12. What is it with you, your name, and the constant references to shit, sodomy, and homosexuality? You've hit the Trifecta.

  15. "but the point is it begins your time line in the public eye"

It documents your car having it a magazine despite the quality of the rag. Next time, the same or another one of your projects will end up in a better magazine.

For crying out loud, at your age the only thing I could get my cars in was a ditch.

I read alot of the posts here about this subject and my take is this.If you are so confident about your ride enter it.That does not mean you should trash talk the compition.I read OSR,THE HORSE AND CKD.I have no problem with them because unlike hot rod and the others that cater to million dollar cars, these guys show what you can do with a budget. You gotta start somewhere. I see the rodding/bike world as a place to find our inner child and creative self.True there are some rat rods that are rediculus but hey if it is all they can afford shouldn't we at least encourage some sort of hobby that gets kids out of the house and wanting to help build a car.

I don't think anyone here asks where or what the parts they are selling are going on,or refusing cash from someone who is building a rat rod with their parts.I see alot of politicians talking about recycling and saving the planet,we are all recycling here and what do we as a group get? Some schmuck in the local comisioners office talking about you can't have a project car in your driveway. They aren't saying no rat rods in driveways they say no projects.

We need to stay focused we're all in this together as a group. If you want to rag on someone, rag on the ILLEGALS,the WELFARE RECIPIANTS that are raising our taxes and raising crime levels everywhere they spread. So go ahead and post your car in the mag, mabe someone will draw insperation from it.

Yeah, ignorance is the enemy, not magasinez.

  20. Your argument would have merit if those "magazzzines" knew the basics of journalism and spelling. They are cater to the lowest common denominator................which happens to be fueled by ignorance.

Okay I say do it.OSR has been slowly evolving if you follow it even just the little bit. I buy it from time to time and its (God Help Save Me from the shit storm) got some good things every once in awhile.Might have even had a few things of mine in there and about 6 to 8 other publications. All of them different types of mags around the same kulture or lifestyle if you will and they all have something kookie or odd about them. And I can assure my shit aint junkie and its has a over abundance of shiney. Also no kitchen sink nobs or shovel handles either. So I end up feeling like a diamond in the rough oamonst the rats if you will.I consider it a honor if someone takes enough time to dig what I am doing and to want to shoot it.I agree with GMC Bubba aint no such thing as bad publicty.......:)

Take the HAMB for instance I was a lurker for years and now have been around for a quite a few posting on and off.I know alot of people on here in person and they know me.I can honestly say there are days that I long for the old HAMB but everything is always changing.Theres alot that has changed here for the good and the bad.I mean I never thought I would see a post on here about econoline vans wtf.Cool I know but damn whats that got to do with traditional hotrods. Also I still believe theres alot on here who get on their soapbox and have never really built or for that matter owned a car and preach whats right and wrong. If you attend any events you should have noticed in the last year and a half or so the norm of rat rodz is changing and shiney is on the way back.Thank God.

So dont be a problem to the problem help change the problem and showem what its suppose to be like.

    :DMAKE'M CHANGE NOT MAKE'M GO AWAY.:D

Who wants to see the same old Street Rodder mag thats been forced down my throat for years........continue.Thumb through it and look how many tradtional cars are starting to pop up in it.

Sorry Rant over......Now I got to go get on my 300 series wide tire OCC chopper and ride off into the sunset to meet my bros at Starbucks.....

    XOXOXO

Aside from all the other drama, did I read the original post correct: Her dad is an editor for the parent mag, and she wants to take pics of your car to enter in a contest the spin-off magazine is having, for a shot at winning $300?

THAT would be where the ethics problem is in this situation.

  25. Hope that Starbucks is still open my friend:p Your point about change IS a good one, I know you are in a place to get this point across with certain people.

  29. My son's shoebox has been in OSR and CKD,along with many other HAMBers. Right now those mags are the fad, with many youngins following the "scene",and i'm sure it will fade someday. They took some pic's of my Merc at Ink-n-Iron,and I have to admit,if it comes out in the mag,i'll buy one of two. The only time I buy one is when a fellow HAMBer's car is in it. Otherwise I just put it back on the shelf.
