Hey guys, need a little help here....

How much space between the bottom side of your torque tube and the top of your brake service shaft do you guys have??

I might be running into some space issues here and am trying to work them out. I "THINK" I have them worked out, BUT I was hoping some of you fellows might be willing to lend a hand via the forum here so to make sure I'm on the right path.

I thought I might have a sag in the frame by the rear engine mounts, so I took a string from the farthest rear body mounting hole in the frame on the top of the frame rail and ran it to the front to the crossmember, there looks to be only a 1/8" gap from the bottom of the string to the top of the frame, maybe a tiny bit more. Can't imagine that would make the trans dip so that the brake cross shaft wouldn't have the needed clearance for its proper travel??

Can anyone take some pics of that area and post them for me?? I want to compare what I have to what's out there,....

    Thanks a million guys,....!!

Hahaha....Elrod, man, that is excellent! It sounds hard as nails....
    What header have you used?

  4. I saw the pictures and was just going to ask for video, but you'd already posted one!

    Sounds great.

I used one of those poorly made Reds Headers. After having it TIG welded where the pipes meet the flange, and then heating all the pipes and bending them inwards toward the block and spacing out the dumps so flanges could be welded on (translate to I had to totally re-work their product) It finally fit with fenders.

It almost sounds like a Harley Bike going down the street. All the people eating lunch on the patios looked up as I drove by! Hahaha!

  6. Just picked up my manifolds tonight. I had then tig so its all nice and neat.
Hopefully more pics tomorrow with them mocked up on the car so I can work out linkages and stuff!

  7. Elrod,
That sounds great! I have the same shitty header and I want to runs duals on my coupe. I was at a yard sale and found two OLD chrome strait tips, like 12" long!!! I think they will liik good shooting out about in the same spot yours are, but under my 32 bumper. With no mufflers on yours, what do you think of the sound?? Loud?

It's pretty loud, but it puts a smile on my face. It's the loudest under acceleration, but just cruising from stop light to stop light, it isn't all that loud. It just sounds stout. In fact, I'm about to go cruising around to pick up some food and just enjoy it!

It's really crazy how similar shape your coupe and mine were before we screwed with them! They could have been twins!

No kidding! My T rear spring and dropped Ford A axle goes in the coupe after I get done moving and settled into my new house / shop in 3 weeks. This has all been in the plans for this coupe so I'm not copying. Honest!!

...though I might copy the placement of your master cyl. now that I saw how you did yours. Your install makes the most sense to me and seems like the easiest way of doing it! None of that other building a bracket stuff!

  11. Yeah, it was easy and cheap....two of my favorite things ;)

Hi All, New to the meet but been dipping into this forum for some time now.
My son's 30 A Roadster is now on the road. All thanks to Marco and Andy at Juarez Traditional Fabrication. 5 months in the making and these are the pic's

It to is running an Eq manifold from Charlie yapp. 2 x Holley 94's one is blocked so runs on just the one carb. Tried to run 2 on prog link but to much fuel.
Seems to run fine with just the one back carb ! Running in the new banger so will pull the plugs to see if running rich out of sink ?

As soon as he has his PC up and running he will be a regular on here for sure.

While he is away in London working looks like I shall just have to keep it running for him then !!!!!!!!

Not much to report on the roadster project. Had my son paint the chassis with simple rustoleum to help protect it another 80 years while I painted the underside of the roadster. I got more paint on me cleaning my boy's hands than I did painting, but it was well worth it!

Hope to get the body mounted on the new chassis soon...

Tman, I think the pistons go up to 0.120" over.

  18. Sounds really good Elrod!

  19. taking replacement piston sizes out of the equation;) how big will the average block go? (of course a sonic check is needed on any obscure overbore......)

  20. With or without sleeves?

My B block, which are allegedly thinner than the A's, was taken out to 0.125" over (4" bore). I had it sonic checked, which it passed but the sonic check showed up that it was getting thin in places.

I then had a piston let go which damaged the bore. Because I was at the maxium overbore already I had it sleeved back to a 4" bore.
When it was bored out for the sleeves they still didn't manage to break through. Properly more from luck than anything else.
I bet it was paper thin though and certainly wouldn't have been usable like that.

Theres a reason why the oversize pistons only go to .0125" over and thats because thats all the average block will sustain.

  21. I have bored or have had bored several "A" blocks to .120 over with no problems. I think the "B" blocks are the same in this area. "B"'s are thinner in the deck area. One thing I heard years ago was that engines bored out to .120 would supposedly run hotter but have not had this happen.
I also think that is a fine looking roadster!

  22. Elrod,

That thing is singing sweet. What is the cylinder pairing, 1&4, and 2&3?

  23. Thanks, thats what I wanted to know! snicker...snicker;)

I used a 6:1 Winfield reproduction for a few years. Had trouble keeping the aluminum head sealed to the cast block. Changed to a cast iron Lion head which has not leaked a drop.

  27. Nothing new to report on my project. The body will be getting paint in a few weeks.

Low 52, love that roadster. Saw the pictures of Marco driving it before it was delivered. Very cool indeed. He builds a fine car.
Be very interesting to hear about the manifold, especially as it's the rear carb you're running fuel through.

    Hi Steve

Did you read the bit about the manifold...

Even with one Carb running - the distribution of fuel and Air will be wrong.

May be worthing checking the plugs from time to time.

Shined mine up a bit which has made it look a little less sorry for itself. Obligatory pics:
