Don't really think I deserved that. If you have squishy balls, you have bigger issues than your car. BTW,i'm not the guy who made the remarks about airbags, except on Hotrods. I don't think you have been following this thread very close. Otherwise you wouldn't direct such stupidity towards me.
Enough about you and your balls.
Thr first part of yout post was great and very informative. Thanks

    Bad Bob,

It is only words...actually letters grouped to forrn words!:D
Remember opinions are like ***holes...everyone has one and for the most part they all stink!
It is fantastic that we live in a country where we can all express our opinions and even get upset with each other without someone going to jail or being shot!;)
This is a great thread..and what is funny we are all saying they same thing... Express Yourself and ignore public opinion!
    Viva la Difference!

    Happy 4th of July!

There, fixed it for ya. ;) Fox body Mustangs may not be the best looking cars ever, but at least they're cheap and easy to make fast.

  10. this thing has gotten so ****-eyed i needed to go back and re-read the OP to remember what the hell is going on here...

a trend is not a trend simply because everyone is doing something. a trend is when people start doing something and that something endures and evolves while other things come and go. it goes through phases and outlives fads. it may branch off into other trends, some which may die, change focus or morph, but it still retains direction. the essence of trend is STAYING POWER

    case in point...pro street.
guys started moving in the direction of 'pro street' long before it was called 'pro street'.as years went on and more builders moved in that direction and more and more cars started showing up they started getting more and more attention. so more and more guys started building them. they started becoming more and more defined and even developed sub-genres. they went through phases (fads)...just look at your old magazines...but today, guys are still building 'pro street' cars.

    hot rods are a trend
    custom cars are a trend
    lowriders are a trend
    mini-trucks area trend

each of the above have followed the same course.

    we are experiencing a revival.
the revival is frought with those caught up in the excitement, emotion and FAD of it all. with those who have no true understanding of the trend by which it was birthed and returned to its nature. its like its starting all over again.

the fakers will live and die by the FAD. they will p*** and the trend will endure. it may slip into obscurity in the grand scheme and be overshadowed by some other trend or FAD, but it will endure because it is FOUNDATIONAL and FUNDAMENTAL.

historically a car show has been a showcase for either fads or foundations. grab a copy of southard's hot rods and customs of the 50's and 60's.

    difference between then and now:
you had to have a show qality car to show your car.
nowadays anyone who can afford the admission can pay to park.
it used to be about SHOW, now its about who knows what.

back then, all of the cars shared styling cues. it was a much smaller world. you could still do something different and be trendy without being FADski. now...its all been done. its either do it over (tried and true, re-interperet it, or do something else and see if it becomes a trend, fad, or bad idea. when you have 10 bazillion rodders its hard to NOT do something thats not been done before.

look, i get your point, but its really just another whine about rat-rocka-**** mobiles. dont trip homie. it will p***.

  11. It's simple...don't go to those shows. I quit going to Cruisin the Coast because it wasn't worth it to see a thousand cars I hated for every one I loved.

One sure mark of a trend: walk into Pep Boys and see what is now available.
Back in the early seventies, flame paint was nowhere to be found in this area. In fact, almost no areas. I made friends with a young custom auto painter that had a wild paint job on his VW. Included were a great set of flames. He told me that he knew it would be time to move on from flames when he started seeing flames available as decals. Damn, you now see them every freaking where !!! When I started my build on my coupe I REALLY wanted to flame it. But even ten years ago, flames were every where.

All I know is, I sure wish I had come up with the idea for fake portholes that idiots are sticking on the sides of anything that rolls. I saw a guy yesturday that had 6 on each side of his F-150! 3 on each fender and 3 on each DOOR!? WTF

I didn't read every response. Trends indeed come and go. How about pastel colors and ZZ Top style graphics? Billet. Champ 500s. T-buckets. Blowers and big HP motors. Pro Street. Pro touring. Show rods (I always loved em). Trends are made by "trend setters" who have vision or ideas. It's not always a bad thing to build to a trend. It's a good thing if you can put a personal spin on it. Make it unique. Make it your own, or have it made your own. I don't knock what anyone wants to have but I do agree some of it is boring. I do knock hanging all the latest ******** under the hood and that guy/gal behaving like they're the next Chip Foose because they ma**ed out their charge card.

For those who know, there's an infinite number of ways to build any type, trend, or style of hot rod/kustom. Doesn't matter too much. Look at the attn g***er styled cars are getting over the last couple years. Makes the real thing more appealing and brings a bit of history to the newly interested. Some trends are gone and that can be a very good thing. Some trends haven't been started yet. Also a good thing.

Here's one - engine covers - engine 'detailing' for people who are too freakin' lazy to detail their engines. And where do you find them - on so called 'show cars' - WTF?:confused:

It was brought up on another thread, maybe a year ago, about guys with Streetrods repainting their cars flatblack, putting on red wheels and WWW's and now calling their cars "Ratrods". I thought it was funny when I saw one that still had the Boyd style interior in it,LOL!!!
Another thing that I can't stand, and in defense of Streetrodders, are those StreetBeast's! Basically a big model car gets delivered to your door and go get a Mustang for a drivetrain, and you have a Streetrod! Right up there with hairpieces, fake ****s,and silicone lips!
How many of you guys are sick of seeing PT CRuisers at Hotrod shows? WTF!!!
I give alot of credit to guys who build their cars AND drive them,WHATEVER style they are!

I got "broke" from the "Trends" 12 years ago. Broke as in won't ever do that again and broke monetarily as well.
I dedcided to build a gl*** 32 roadster. Although gl***, it was going to be fenderless and look as old style as I could make it. By the time that "car" was done it was full fendered billet everywhere with a one - piece lift off roof (that in itself is a story). It was nice in that sense of style but I had followed a trend instead of building what I wanted.
The end result was even though I drove it I never truly enjoyed it and I must say that I was happy to see it sold.
My old 48 Poncho ragtop has been dead in the water for > 3 yrs now. My goal is to not use any billet anywhere on this car and if I do to either chrome it or cover it with paint. I will use my old "shot" interior, the paint that is already on it and also the ragged and torn top already on the car. Someday I might get around to upgrading those but right now I just want to drive. I am not skilled in a lot of areas automotive and depend on help from friends and what I can farm out that is affordable to me. I ask a lot of questions and get a lot of help here on the HAMB. The 2 biggest factors in a lot of my decisions is what I can afford and what is simple or achievable by me.
Hey you know what? That makes me following a trend that a lot of people have been doing since they started building cars/trucks. Guess I'm finally "catching on".

Here's the trend that I would like to see die. "It's your car, man, build it how you want."

How stupid. You don't have to post **** like that. Of course, you can build it however you want. I come here to share ideas with other traditional minded people. There are boards for most styles of cars. IF you post pics of rat rods, expect to get slagged. IMO, we love to attempt to recreate the era of the Frank Mack T, the Doane Spenser '32, the Hirohata Merc, Valley Custom, the Ayala Brothers, etc, etc.

We pretty much **** on anything from that Rousell guy.

The trend of the rolling feces sculpture is a p***ing trend. And good riddance to it.
