Goodguys: Des Moines

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 27T, Jul 5, 2008.

  1. Hey Dad,
I wanted to be there but was stopped due to some body repair. Everybody that I talked to said that the temps were the best ever for Des Moines. I hope that we get together at the drags in August. I hated to see that good looking car picture ruined by a gray headed old coot in the back ground.

Great pictures and thanks for the post.
I passed thru Des Moines just last month when I was bringing my Old Dodge D100 home from Idaho. To bad I didn't wait a week or two.

Officially a dumb question. PLEASE either post the pix or a link to where you're hiding them.

That rambler with the minilites is a bad boy, if it looks familiar it's because hot rod mag gave it a page or two of ink within the last year, along with some kind of top 10 pick.

  19. During the awards presentations, they said it ran 174 mph in a flying mile at some oval down south.

I talked to the Rambler guy at length.
He is a machinist by trade in DesMoines and did ALL the work himself including the tube front / all suspension set up and drivetrain etc.

    He's running a 406 Cu Chevy if I remember with 14 to 1 pistons and a 6 speed with a in/out clutch.

Anyway - the AMC clubs won't let him in the club stuff because of the Chevy motor or they said sure - if you don't open the hood.

He's a very humble guy that just does his own different thing of 1 mile races in some speed group.

He does not road race it like road America or anything like that.
    Just the one mile stuff.

Neat car / very talented humble guy with one mean bitchin looking and running Rambler.
