A few of us met 8 am Friday morning to blast off for the weekend. Roadburner1 driving a super slick model "A" coupe he built for a customer and traveling with his brother Cale, Jess from Lincoln with her just finished 34 coupe running with her twin sister ( a couple of super nice gals ), Malcolm in his Galaxie with the new 302 5 speed for the first run, Joe Galaxie in his 63 1/2 Galaxie, his brother Scott and family with his Galaxie wagon and my 64 Chevy wagon for it's first trip with the new colors.
Got to the fairgrounds about 11am in the middle of a picture perfect day. Parked the cars and wasn't long before Denise and Megan showed up with Big Olds and the fun began, checked out the cars and swap meet, picked up some 40 parts that Carkiller brought up for me ( Thanks Cal ) and settled in under some big trees to drink beer and talk. That night most of us had dinner at Joes crabshack and then headed back to the host motel parking lot for more drinking and catching up with old friends.
Saturday was outstanding again, lots of very cool cars, and great weather. The meet and greet turned out about 30 HAMBr's and for me the highlight was getting to meet Bull and talk with him about his accident and recovery. This is an amazing individual with a great attitude for all he's been through.( God's speed in a quick and full recovery )
That nite Cornfed and his lovely wife hosted a small get together and invited all of us to his home for an incredible dinner. The dinner and tour of his long time collection of cars and parts took my breath away. In respect of Chris I'll let him show or not pic's of his collection as I don't feel thats my place, but I can tell you it is unbelievable. Again there were soooooo many cool people to meet I can't begin to remember all of them. It was probably the best weekend I've ever had in Des Moines and want to say thanks to everybody who traveled with us from Omaha ( a great bunch of friends ) Especially Jess and her sister from Lincoln, can't begin say enough about these two girls.
Megan and Denise, as always you guys are too much fun and look foward to seeing you again in 3 weeks to do it all again at the KKOA in Salina. Heres a few pic's from the weekend. Gary

Thanks for the pics, Gary! Well, it certainly goes without saying, but - What a great weekend!
I have to agree with you. That was the best time I've ever had at the Des Moines Goodguys event. Of course, the whole crew that we hung out with this weekend had alot to do with that! :);)

  11. Great story, Gary.....I could have gone but this weekend was my one chance in over 6 months to get some work done on my 34 ford. I took it. I was thinking of all you guys while I was listening to the Oldies station, removing the wounded 305 chevy and installing the little 56AB flathead/3 speed. I got some good stuff done.
Hey, can there be a better 29 coupe than Chris' [Cornfed's] black, un-chopped coupe? Try to find something wrong with it.....can't except it's not parked in my garage.

Yea it's hard to get stuff done while your on the road having fun. Sounds like you made some good progress.
Cornfeds coupe is perfect, but I reeeaaally liked his 57 Ford 2 door Ranch wagon. Gary

I also need to add how cool it was that Corn Fed (Chris), his wife, Laurie, and family had us over for dinner. Great people that are always a blast to hang out with. They have a nice place just outside Des Moines and a great shop with a heck of a stash of parts and future projects. Thanks!!

Gary, I agree. One of the best GG's I've had yet. (Next weekend @ Columbus may outdo it though - will fill in if all goes well).

I'm glad you and your wife made it over to my place. Thanks for the kind words. I enjoyed showing you my shop & cars as well as shootin the bull. The people in this hobby are what makes it fun. Now that ya know where I live, stop in if you're ever in the area.

I saw that yellow Nash Metropolitan in Creston,Iowa on Saturday. First I was a few cars behind it at the parade with my 41 Chevy. and I saw it later at the Creston Family Restaurant.

I was planning to come up to Goodguys on Saturday but I had some other things come up at the last minute and I couldn't make it. I must say that I am pretty disappointed having missed all the fun.

    I'm good with faces...bad with names...probably a bad listener?

Weird??? No, just passionate about your "work" which is what it takes to make it in the magazine & video field.

You're welcome on the eats. If I make it to Ohio, I'll try to stop by your booth.

I talked with that guy who owns the blue deuce quite a bit. Said it was his first hot rod build and although he's beem tweaking it a bit as it goes I'd say he did a hell of a job. Missed ya last weekend but you can make up for it and roll down with all of us to the KKOA in Salina on the 25th. Give it some thought, See Ya, Gary

Gary, it was great to meet you and your wife. Thanks for the well wishes. Next year I hope to be driving to the event instead of being rolled around in a wheelchair!
