I'm looking for photos of it in it's early form. Rod & Custom Feature car in '61 or '62. Built in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin and shown as the "Sun-Sation". It was Light Gold and Lowdown. Sold to Kasper and redone by him and Vince...then with Thrush Sidepipes, Flared fenders, and some Flames....I lost sight of it in the late '70's but it was Killer when first built....Car is now in California. I'd love to see scans of it from the R&C Issue or anything else pertaining to it. I'd love to see it returned to the Original form too.............Childhood Fantasy Favorite! Thanks All.......C9
It is the issue of Rod &Custom where they do a test drive with it. If I had my magazines with me I would scan you a pic. Somebody is bound to have it! Real tasteful car in the day.
Most of you guys either have no imagination, or you weren't in the hobby in the 70's and 80's.......Think bigger boys.....! C9
I was in the hobby in the 70's and 80's. Cars that looked like that are exactly why I build old school. Replace the wheels and tires with some wide whites and hubcaps, dump the side pipes and fender flares, and you have a nice car. my.0002$ Craig
Craig.....No argument....my point was...there was very little "old school" in the 70's and 80's.....The car as pictured was at that time...very cool. Most old school guys today, weren't building old school cars 30 years ago.....just because we're "cool and hip" now doesn't mean we didn't get caught up back then...in fact, most guys were into American Muscle then....I found my fix in the Early Lowrider scene, and was grateful I had even that....Back to the car....Let's see if someone comes up with the Rod and Custom article....then you'll see the car the way we'd want it today...............C9
Here's a chance to see one of the Best '41 mercs ever built if somebody will pull out the Road Test in the Rod & Custom where it's featured. I'd love to see this car returned to it's former glory......C9
I'm at the computer typing"after the new format yesterday I now wear welding goggles to type" this old car don't look bad but a little dark. Let me remove the goggles. Holy **** that thing is nasty. Back with goggles>>>>.
Please, for the love of God, somebody find his picture so we can see how much somebody screwed this thing up...
I was in the hobby during those days and i dont remember that many screwed up cars like this one. most of them in the 70's were retro rods with jag suspension, or the fad T's. in the 80's is when the mono chrome billet thing got real popular. but nothing God awful like that thing running around the nats.
Yes PLEASE! If anyone has that R&C you'll be amazed. All this car stuff needs to be taken in context. It is always about an "age". The guy who built this car originally didn't have the HAMB in mind when he built it. It was a "period correct" car. The guys who updated it, did the same thing. The cars that are being built by most HAMB members today are trying to "recreate" an earlier period....Some of it is great, but we're still creating some really ugly cars today....Rust, unfinished welds, Maltese crosses on everything, and parts that just don't fit together don't make a cool car any more today than they did 40 years ago. You may not like the redo, and that's cool...just try to think of the big picture....10-40 years from now, you may look at the stuff being built today and puke too.....Somebody please look through your R&C collection and I'll go away with this car.......Thanks, C9
Got a pretty complete library of r&c 50s and 60s. Can you narrow the time frame? I don't see much on that car that can't be fixed in a month of sundays. Pretty solid.
I'm going to go get the popcorn now, i hope i dont puke it up while seeing more pics of this pile.........
Bill...it would have to be in the first couple years of the Big R&C....and Pre-64. That's a span of 2-3 years as I recall. It is a featured car in the early Road (RodTest) Series.....Remember, the car will appear light colored (Black & White article) as it was Light Gold at the time. Lowered, Corvette hubcaps, etc. Man, I really don't know what you guys see as being so horrible about this car....I've seen a ton of cars right here that are truly UGLY that never were anything else...! Maybe it's my defense of it that's buggin you..... I'm glad I have thick skin...........C9...and Thanks Bill..........
ill give you this much, it might could have been a nice looking custom that turned out like **** when the next owner got his hands on it. it looks like it has been sectioned and maybe the front fenders were already scalloped but the flares and pipes look like dookie, and the wheels have to go!
The car was never sectioned....let's see what PastDueBill comes up with....I think you'll be pleasantly surprised..................
Rickster, you are unbeleivable! I eat ,drink, and sleep hotrods but you carry it a step farther........
anybody else notice the slick mounting of the 4 97's?? that's EXACTLY what I wanted to do with the 283 in my 32. looks like he took a vette fuelie intake and mounted the a stromberg above each set of ports.
Rikster....Thanks very much. This was a local car that really set this kid on fire! Now I'm 62. I'll remember the first time I walked around this thing forever. It's really not that far removed from it's present state. I'll let the mockers continue...I don't get it......C9
It really was a nice car in it's original form. Would be a great story if you could buy it someday and restore it. The 70's damage doesn't appear to be too extensive. From what is showing in the pic, the flares seem to be the worst of it. Could be some major hacking done to fit those wide *** wheels under it.
C9...you have to remember the "mockers" are "youngsters" that have no appreciation for the 70's or the 80's...much as a lot of them have no appreciation for the '60's either...that is ancient history, before most of them were born... Beg to differ lostn51...there were lots of cars like this...it was prolly that you were only interested in one type of hot rod and never bothered to look at the "customs" because at that time, this is what a custom became.
