So I'm about to throw down on some goodies for my C2AE 292 Ford Y Block. Just want to get some feedback from anyone who has used these parts, and any offerings you might have.

    Everything from John Mummert (www.ford-y-block.com)

    Y-292S Camshaft
    VS115-16 Valve Springs
    CS-4060 True Roller Timing Set
    New Retainers
    New Pushrods
    New Lifters

It's about $800 in parts with gaskets, plus having the guides shortened at a machine shop, but it ought to wake this heavy bastard up. Topped with a 3x2 & Strombergs, the good heads, headers, electronic ignition, and a manual trans in a roadster. I hope this little thing moves.

It's crazy how heavy the y-blocks are. I weighed my engine and trans for my Model A and it was about 850lbs! I couldn't believe it. Hopefully someone has some constructive info on these parts for you. I would love to know a bit about them myself.

John Mummert himself recommended these parts for my particular build. And since he's known as the be-all end-all Y-Block Guru, I figure he's gonna be right. Just curious what others on here might have to say. ;)

I've only used the timing set and it was a nice piece. He'll do ya right, which heads you going to be using?

Thanks for the link, I'm sure I'll be buying a few parts from him myself now! :) Did he happen to say what kind of power he thought you might get out of that set-up?

Well I haven't ordered any parts from him but I have heard from many people he is the man to go to.
Thanks for posting this as I have a y block I will hop up after I finish my Model A truck. Let me know how this works out for you.

My heads are the 5750-113 Posted heads. Same exact as the '57 Supercharged EDB Heads. Not sure what kind of power this will make. Stock is around 200 I think. Let's say 2000lb car (T Roadster), 200hp at wheels, calculates to 12.54 in the quarter. 200hp at the flywheel with a 17% power reduction calculates to a 13.22 ET. Hmmm, either way it sounds fun!

  9. Y-blocks are a blast to work with and when done right will put out a lot of power. We ran Fords starting way back in 1955 with a 239, then a 292, then 312, then the FE Y-blocks, then the MEL's. All were fun, especially the 312. That baby would scream and out ran damn near every Chevy we ever faced. Performance parts are now kinda rare, but worth the effort to find them. Have fun dude.

Anyone check with Ted Eaton?............he is down Waco, Tx way..........has been known to turn out some VERY fast Y blocks...........

btw...I have a Y block, complete with a trans to trade for any old Military rifle or 49/50 Ford parts. I really do need a decent hood.

Y-blocks are really neat motors and can be made to make some serious HP.
One thing on a Y-block is the heads, this is where you make the most HP.
Here are some ideas in pictures..............................................enjoy!

Has anyone done the machining to fit a 312 crank in the 292 block. I have heard several people do this & wonder what the true results were. I am re-doing a 292 for my 34 pickup and want to try this along with Mummerts stroker kit.

I'm curious what kind of power this thing will be putting out for being a mild motor with no internal mods. Later down the road I'm planning on having Ted Eaton build a bottom end with some of the new Aluminum heads(whenever they come out) and a custom grind cam. I might even run some boost through it to go faster. We'll see.

A mild street motor between 250/300HP, and an all out single 4 motor around 400HP.
Talk with John Mummert about his 400+HP heads. In a Y-block...............heads and intakes are everything...............plus the use of roller rockers!

Here are a couple of pictures of mild to wild Y-blocks,

I've heard that the tubular pushrods are a must. I'm sure that's what he quoted you. After we took apart my brothers y-block I think there were 4 or 5 slightly bent pushrods. Apparently it's pretty common.

    More info on induction please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did anyone ever cast a 6x2 setup or are they all the "U Fab" kits?

Blowers - I have only heard of two MFG. of a blower intake and have only seen one in person (Crager). Anyone else cast one or do they need to be fabbed up of a 4 barrel intake?

Damn, thats light Dusty. Yeah the Pushrods are tubular HD ones. No sense in bending weak Ford pushrods all day. They are flimsy like their FE brothers.

Now if I can just find a Toploader 4spd.

Weiand made a Dragstar 6x2 intake for the Ford Y-Block. I think the part number is WFM6. I had one, but sold it to a friend at Bonneville last year. Not sure if I still have a pic of it, I'll post one if I do.

Here's a look at my 292 with a 312 crank-single 4 barrel out of the box. Aluminum Blue Thunder Intake, Mummert Heads and much, much more. It's going in my 55 bird with an AOD trans.
You should talek to Ted Eaton. Builds a great Y. Y's can make horsepower, don't worry-just how much do you want to spend.
btw Eldebrock also made a 6x2 alum intake and HIlborn made a fuelie setup.

DAMN!!! That's pretty!!! Whats the scoop of the valve cover breathers? I've never seen that before on a Y-block.

Scott, they look like name delete Edelbrock elite series right angle breathers. You can get them from Jegs for $23 a piece.

I've seen the Eldebrock 6x2 on ebay -would look cool But the Blue thunder 4 Barrel setup probly is more efficient
BUT Barry Grant has new 2 barrels that should work much better on those setups

Sounds like a bitchin' build. Keep us updated with pics, and if you can, video & sound. :D Love those Y-blocks.

What's the best source for the tubular pushrods? I'm about to go through my valvetrain and I may want to use them.

  29. All of the "Y" service pushrods from the autoparts outfits are the 5/16 tubular style "late" model parts. Try asking at NAPA - or mine came via web-order from Rock Auto - about $2.60 each. Ask for pushrods for a '64 292 truck engine. They are ten times the strength of the original "solid bar" style Ford pushrods. Isky sells a listed 3/8 diameter tubular pushrod for the "Y" - and I can't imagine the valve springs it would take to hurt them. Might be a bit heavy for a quick reving set-up - but I don't know how they compare with the stocker tubular style parts.

I think Ted Eaton's motor in the photo has the new style Comp Cams "beehive" valve springs and small diameter retainers that can give high rev's without huge amounts of seat pressure. With roller rockers they could use a lighter pushrod and rev really quickly.

Yes, I have the Isky RPM-300 Kit in mine which includes the 3/8 pushrods and solid lifters and Hi Rev Springs.
The behive setup in Eaton's motor is a good way to go.
Also Eagle H-beam rods are good for the stroker setup but you'll have to get pistons setup. Or just get Mummerts complete stroker kit.
Most important thing-always SONIC check the block FIRST, after Magnafluxing.
