My boss has a Roth Flake gun an a buncha Roth Flake. He wants me to paint helmets an junk, but I dont even know how to use a paint gun! What kinda compressor do I use, how much psi, an what do I mix the flake with ?(clearcoat?) Any help would be much appreciated.
Is this it? If this is the one you shoot dry from the gun onto the clear you just shot from another gun. I have shot at 20-25 psi. Be careful though flake goes everywhere, and I mean everywhere.

if you have the BAZOOKA then be prepared to waste ALOT of flake. DO NOT open the trigger at full blast, just lightly pull the trigger and "MIST" it on slowly. if you open the trigger at full blast the gun tends to "FART" the flake out and really looks like shit. it will work well if your patient and use the gun wisely, i want to learn how to shoot flake the "REAL WAY"
Hey, Try using some HOK (House Of Color) SG100 or SG150 clear to mix your flake into. To shoot flake well, your gonna need a 'real' spray gun with atleast a 2.0 tip for large flake. Go easy on the first pass with your flake. Try 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons of flake to a reduced quart. A jar of flake goes a ways if not wasted. Swankey Devils C.C. I think ppg DBC500 is actually less expencive than House of Color, and it worked great for me. And a 2.0 gun is awsome if you have one to use but you can get away with like a 1.7 primer gun if you keep the flake agitated in the cup. good luck. I love flake, flake ,flake, flake.
Shoot the clear. Throw a handfull-0-flake at the part pick up what doesn't stick and repeat process till your back hurts.......... Then shoot more clear Leave the gun on a display shelf!

This is the best advice......as far as a gun goes, I use a cheapie Harbor Freight gun with the tip drilled out oversize, for shooting flake. That's all I use it for.....
Sounds like you should get great results making your first ever painting project a flake job. Maybe have someone do video so we can all enjoy it.
Thats what I was thinking about doing. Any advice on the size bit you used? Which model did you buy? Im about to do my first flake job to the roof of my wifes 69 Impala. I want to mix the flake into the clear. Going roths biggest flake and smallest. Which tips should I use, and will a 15 gallon 2hp compressor work? Any help would be appreciated

what business are you in??? is it even in automotive painting? if you are not already a painter, is your boss forcing something on you that you dont even want to do? if it is something you want to do then i suggest you start with the basics of painting. learn about materials, what guns to use, techniques, and practice,practice,practice. i have never used that kind of gun before, so i dont have answers for it, but i did see a promo video on it and was not impressed. and the finished product looked very lumpy and un even. even after it was sanded and buffed. im sure some guys love it. but im stickin with adding flake into the clearcoat. I'd too advise you to get the basic idea of painting before jumping into flake... Where are you going to do this, i guess you'll be using 2k clear etc?
you have no painting experience but you have tools and material's that your boss wants you to use? what a shame that you get to learn without a large $$$$ investment on your part. Oh no thats right painting is a black art like tuning carbs or welding... skills handed down to only a few. you should never try somthing new, remember hotroders never try anything new. Or you could just find as much useful information as you can and give it a shot on some test parts
