I'm gonna go WAY out on a limb and venture a guess that the original '84 4 door Cutlass Brougham body looked a little better than what he ended up with.

What happens to all the original fenders? There must be a huge pile of them somewhere.

I need a pair for my project.

Now all you need to do is chop the cab and it won't look like the pope-mobile

Well that is the main reason I joined HAMB is to get ideas for a fenderless truck my 12 year old son wants to build. The story is the truck was my fathers and it was completely restored 55 first series chevy.Dad totaled it when he T boned a dodge magnum. The frame is junk the complete front sheet metal is junk. The cab is useable as is the bed.My son likes the cars he sees in Old Skool and Deluxe. My dad told Nick he could have the truck so I figure we can all build something out of it from what ever we could scrounge out of dads garage. We have a 425 nailhead and a 4 speed and I got a free 35 ford front end with wishbone.I bought a cool front spring mount at the LA roadster show for 30 bucks. The three of us get out in the garage and do stuff on it on the weekends. That is three generations working on a car project it does not get any cooler than that.If someone doesn't like my sons truck when it is done fuckem.I would build a damn drifting tuner car if it got the family together in the garage.

Here's mine. Just got it going this spring, been having a blast so far.

  16. Back then, trucks were used for work, not fashion accessories. All the fenders got banged up and crunched.

  17. Yeah, and they used to take the driver's doors off the farm trucks back then too and throw them in the mud, because the door just got in the way. So lots of old trucks are missing the driver's door.

I think trucks are cool. Something about taking a utilitarian vehicle and making something cool of it is just cool. You can take some beat up piece of crap that was formerly used to haul chickens or pigs, and turn it into something that hauls ass!

Fenders, no fenders, who cares. I like variety.

    Chassis guys, engineer types?

Is this even close to safe? I'm thinking there would be some great leverage involved with these monster Z's at the joints. Forget about the quality of the weld, even if this was formed tubing, the stress would still be there. Seems like the engine being mounted to the frame is actually helping to prop up the rear of the frame via the torque tube (I hope it's a torque tube!). What's the average weight of a really stripped down hot rod like this? Maybe my concern is unnecessary? I realize this is suspended and is holding it's shape, but with driving forces and road conditions, it still seems like an incredible amount of stress....

A pic of the bare chassis would help.
Knowing the tubing size and thickness would also help.
