Doors are easy to swap. I notice this one has a cab mounted fuel tank, which would not be correct for a '47 either. But on a 60 year old truck that belongs to a hot rodder who knows what might be changed...

    I love this truck.

My father-in-law's project he just purchased over the weekend.
He'll be using it to haul his old Oliver around.

  14. Took me a minuite, but I figured it out. The first axle is U-shaped to clear the driveshaft.

Awesome pictures and thread!! I had to join after seeing these pics!

I have a buddy that built a 41 Dodge COE pulling truck. He chopped the top and put a sheet metal skin on the back to resemble a tow truck.

He also has a couple of videos on youtube, user name pullingCOE. I don't know if I can post a link, but you can search youtube with his user name and get to a couple of vids. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F2eN28a54g

Great pics, thanks for the ideas!

Hey WQ59B looks like the wrong grill/hood on your 40. Looks like the truck is in pretty decent shape too. What you gonna do with it?

Yea- I bought it with no hood and intentionally chose a '41-47 style because I prefer them muchly over the oval style.
Just intend to refresh the mechanicals and drive it exactly as it looks. Seats are redone, fuel system redone, front brakes/drums/bearings done, radiator done. Needs exhaust, rear brakes/bearings checked. I should think about replacing the 40-yr old tires too, I guess.

I'm not going to claim it was a good idea, but I have seen one on an S-10. So yes at least one guy has thought about it.

What did it look like? If a reagular truck can fit on a S10 frame why wouldn't a COE.

The biggest problem with any COE frame swap is the steering shaft angle. The COE drive sits very far forward compared to a regular pickup, so the steering wheel ends up at the back of the cab. That's why motor home and van chassis are the best choice for fitting under a COE. I also don't think they are really heavy enough for the way most COE's are built, especially if they are used for hauling or towing. Mine has a 3/4 ton GMC van front end and a Ford Dually rear!
I'm amazed at all the fascination with S-10 under all kinds of rods, just don't get it.

I think it is due to the fact that there are easily found and the size is why people like them. I have another vehicle that I am looking at using a Toyota chassis due to its smaller size. Also with the S10 there are parts galore for modifying the chassis.

I am thinking of building my COE for daily use rather than a hauler, that is where the S10 thought came from.
