Went over to Earl Scheib yesterday with my rust free 66'olds. They quoted me 1676$ to paint my car. I checked out a car that was still in the booth and it was oranged peeled really bad. Looks like a place for dealers to clean up junkers to roll them.
My buddy went to Maaco and said he wanted a satin/flat paint job. After explaining what he wanted, they did it single stage with flattener. It came out great. And has been done for almost 2 years. Sits outside most of the time and still looks good. All for less than 800. bucks.
The truck was already painted shiney, but was ugly....purple/yellow. He just worked a couple spots, and they did the rest.
i read the wikipedia thing about him, they said that there paints are now up to quality of other manufactures, lol ya riiiiiiight. u get what u pay for, u guys dont go spending 400 bucks for a shop to do a chop, y should u skimp on paint? paint is the first thing EVERYONE sees.
Do your own prep, bring cash and beer. Its a flat rate painters two best friends. Just dont leave anything, (I mean anything) on the car you dont want painted. The tape work is usually done by very low rent type of guys who could care less about how much time you spent on your car. Jon
I worked for Earl back in '67/'68 at their Pomona, Ca. store and also their Phoenix, Az. store. As stated before do your own prep. $29.95, unless you wanted the bugs and dirt removed, that would be extra!
It isn't so much that they don't care, they are only allowed so much time to prep for paint. Get them in and out as fast as you can!
I had them paint my 98 F150 and camper shell. It came out pretty good, although only time will tell how long it will last. Get a quote, then ignore them for a few weeks, and they might send you a backup offer like 10% off.
had our shop blazer painted at maaco removed all trim did prep, paid extra for the door jambs and the bed area (took the roof off, 83 full size) the paint job was damm good, almost perfect i would say it was b+ paint job on quality.
This shop doesn't wet sand and buff. Threre ad stated they did. That Caddy that was in there had severe orange peel and it was a dark color. The shine was disorted really bad. Any good do it your self threads??
AAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!! I'LL PAINT ANY CAR FOR 99.95!!!!! LEAVE THE WINDOWS DOWN, AND WE'LL PAINT THE KIDS FOR FREE!!!! they buy the paint in LARGE bulk quantities, and run the place like and assembly line. plus they don't pay their guys too good. they wanted to pay me 9 bucks an hour to be one of their painters. I about fell over laughing. anyways, I can get all the shit to paint a car in PPG OMNI paint for about 250 bucks. the gallon of paint's about 100 bucks and the rest is paper, primer and filler. So, they can probably do a decent job on just the paint and no body work for 399.00 - 799.00 But , you need to do the bodywork, fine taping, and prep work. plus there's gonna be alot, did I say alot, of wetsanding and buffing needed. If you got more time than money? hell yeah, do it. what's the worst that's gonna happen? It'll have lots of orange peel.
OK! Can you wet sand and buff a exstreme orange peel paint job? I don't know from exsperience. The paint jobs that I saw didn't have run nor overspray. Just bad orange peel. The coclr and coverage was good. Not much trash in the paint at all.
u can wetsand and buff any job. but how it turns out is based on how many mils are there are. it could be thin enuff were u sand through with 2000(that would be one thin job)
My buddy had his Jeep painted that orangey red color by them and it came out ok, I'd give them a C as far as a grade, they missed a spot or two that was painted really light by the rear wheel well, and they oversprayed ALOT, his paint has orange peel, he likes it the way it is, he trashes it in the dirt/mud anyway so I think its cool for that, he paid like 3-400 bucks. Hit and miss. Cross your fingers when its in there haha. Anthony
