  2. Yeah....gotta go with Hemi32 and Denise on this one! Mr42 is the ticket for the HAMB. You can get a lot of different feelings from that picture, goin' home, ridin' the open county, enjoyin' the breeze, whatever. That one is "suitable for framin'". Thanks for postin' it Mr42.
Another thing...I thought readin' and followin' directions were taught way back in grade school. It just baffles me. I hate to...but I've gotta throw out a.... WTF! Come on guys......

After seeing the pic of the green roadster that was totaled doing a burn out, I would say this pic is one of those wrong place and wrong time burn outs.

  7. Pook ... I agree ... your observations are dead on!

I really had high hopes for this thread (haven't given up on it yet) ... I thought C9's Photography Contest was a great idea 'cuz there are some real talented folks on this board ... but I fear this thread is headed (if not already there) in the direction of the "Cool pictures! Post them here!" thread.

IMHO ... This thread is in dire need of moderation ... C9 or the HAMB Moderators needs to weed out (delete) all the contest rule breaking posts ... as well as all of the "whiner" posts (like this one) :D

In hindsight, it might have been a good idea for C9 to repeat a brief "List of Contest Rules" (in bold font) every 10 or 20 posts.

Oh well, I'm probably just being too anal about this ... no one is holding a gun to my head to look at all the O/T photos.

On a positive note, I've gone back through this thread (from the beginning) ... and noticed that some have done a bit of "self-moderating" (editing or deleting their photo submissions / posts) ... perhaps I'll do the same ... and delete all of my "whiner" and/or "tattle-tale" posts in this thread.

  9. this a pic of my dads old A roadster in the snow

  10. MIGHTY ... dig your Lincoln ... she's a beauty!

BTW ... this thread is supposed to be a Photography contest ... where clarity, composition and focus are paramount ... as well as sticking to the theme ... said theme being, hot rods {& customs} in interesting places ... no disrespect intended ... but IMHO an empty parking lot near San Pedro & Church in M.H. isn't really that interesting ... also, how do you keep that palm tree attached to your roof? :D

Again, really like your car ... just couldn't help pointing out the "rules" of this here photo contest ... maybe you have another photo of your car in a more interesting place?

I dig it also and while I understand your position this aint a photography site. The wagon pic that everyone digs has a tree growing out the roof also. His front yard isn't a place of interest either. People still like it. So the question is, what is best for a place like the HAMB? Proper learned composition or a pic everyone thinks is cool?

When the designers were designing a 50 Merc was the proper lines according to what they had been taught in automotive design school the chops we all love? Open headers on a flat head were never meant for the street but damn if they don't sound nice going by.

Now C9 may be a stickler for proper composition but most of us here don't care. We just like the car. Nothing personal as I do understand your point but you would rest easier knowing that most don't give a darn and most of us are too old to change. :D

  15. Although it is C9's contest, and he can set the rules. I think ANY style photo of a HAMBers car would have been fine. Maybe even a vote by fellow HAMBers, for the favorite pic. Most votes wins. Two awards-#1 Photographer,#2-HAMBers car.
Maybe there can be another contest,by another HAMBer,with different awards, and different rules!
    How about around Labor Day?
I still vote for the wagon in the leaves....and what IS interesting? Depends on what the person making the choice thinks is interesting, right?

  16. I'm no photograher but I thought I would post this pic I took at Hopkins Wrecking yard in Caldwell Idaho

  17. Agreed ... this ain't a photography site ... but it is (or was supposed to be) a "PHOTOGRAPHY Contest" thread!

Don't worry ... I'm not gonna lose any sleep over this "Photography Contest for HAMB Cars" thread ... heck, I don't even have "a dog in the hunt" ... I (like several others on this thread) was just trying to keep it from becoming another "Cool pictures! Post them here!" thread ... but it's probably too late ... I can't wait for the umpteenth posting of the "buck in the grille" photo. :D

kustombypook & hotrodladycrusr are so correct (see their posts a page or two back)

Anyway, I'm really not into any of this "message board drama" ... I'm just here to discuss Traditional Rods & Customs ... and to look at some  car pictures (er, I mean photos) ... heck, my signature is "a picture is worth a thousand words" ... I better start practicing what I preach! :D

  18. Don't worry Hemi32. When this contest is over,it will go back to "My six lug wheels won't fit my five lug truck!". LOL!!!!

I like it! The shape of the building in the background frames the truck nicely.

Mighty has a nice picture for sure... IF the tree wasn't growing out of the top of it. Same thing with the wagon and the leaves... Its a cool enough picture... and the colors are amazing. It just happens to be breaking one of the first rules of photo composition.

Since this is a photography contest I think its ok to reinforce that.

You guys bitch when someone posts a car that is post 65... why is it ok to break this rule?

Taken outside the only Motel I know of in Essex! No filters this is how it came out of the camera, brilliant sunshine one second black cloud the next. You could say a typical british summers day....

Thanks to Matt for the photo.

Okay, I know this is not a photography site, but I'd like to throw in my opinion just for the sake of conversation.

As a professional photographer for more than twenty years, albeit in motorsports, I'm very familiar with the "rules" of composition. I can also tell you that those "rules" can be broken and are broken by some of the best shooters in the world every day.

nowaxn5's photo of the '62 Galaxie parked on the fall leaves does indeed have the tree right behind the car sticking right up "out of" the roof. But, you can also see some of the trunk through the car's windows which conveys the message that the tree is in fact behind the car, not growing out of it. Also the the additional leaves that are still on the tree in the upper part of the frame, balance the colors of the leaves in the bottom half of the frame and makes the whole thing "work". If this had been shot from any other angle, leaving that tree out of the frame, I don't think it would be nearly as good.

Now, the '32 roadster facing the curvy road that was posted by Mr 42 hits almost all of the classic compositional elements that you learn in Photo 101. Add in the fact that it's black and white (a personal favorite of mine) and you have a hit.

Since there can be only one winner, Honorable Mention goes to Denise for her shot of Big Olds just off the road "somewhere in Ohio".

Also to Petejoe for the second shot he posted of the '37 coming out of the covered bridge. But wait a minute, being his second submission, he violated a contest "rule". Sorry, he's out! ;)

There are probably one or two more that deserve mention but I'm too lazy to scroll through all 18 pages of this thread right now.

I'm not trying to stir up any crap, these are just my own ramblings early on a Saturday morning.

Well, since my first submission did not follow the rules and it was an "artsy" pic of the front end of a Chebby. Maybe this one will please the "photo nazi's"!! LOL! I don't want to hear..."no HAMB for you!!" from them! LOL
