    haha. oh man.

Well, i haven't sprayed the stuff myself but my dad said he loved how it sprayed and layed down.

SIKKREATIONS, have you ever seen any of clarks cars in person? Apparently not.......

Seriously, if you do it right and play around with it a little bit it will be very smooth.

Now this one did streak on me. I tried to get away with 1 coat of clear....big no no.
The streaking did get better with time. Not sure if it was from washing it with comet or just fading.

I do reduce it an extra 10 percent. Maybe that's why I'm having so much luck.

i like that level of gloss, too. kind of like a sculpture. would michaelangelo's 'david' be better with a polished surface?

The green car is not perfect in the pics from cleaning it with windex after driving in the snow.

Which truck are you saying is blochy? The blue one was at least 3 years old when that pic was taken. Here it is when it was sprayed. Here it is when sprayed.

The deck lid shot is the best to show how it comes out. That is untouched right after spraying.

The only problem with scotchbrite afterwards is you get lines from scuffing it. I used to wash my truck with scotchbrite when it was in dp90.

dp 90 isnt flat clear. i wouldnt use that as an example. i dont use flex n flat, its illegal in my area. plus i did a patina logo on a 36 ford that had the clear on it, and any solvent that hit the clear softened it. i learned the hard way, lucky i fixed it with more of the logo.

the flat clear i use. my regular matrix clear with flattner, and alsa's softfeel can be evened out with a well used grey scotchbrite and ajax or comet.

What are you trying to prove? Clark isn't exactly new to this game so I wouldn't try to school him. This thread asks the question, Has anyone shot a car with flexed and flat clear from PPG. Clark has and has responded with his experiences, all you've been doing is picking apart the cars hes done.

So you are saying that the flex and flat is not compatible with solvents? It is not a catalyst based clear? I have never used it, so I don't know much about it. I had heard of people spraying a standard clear on first then putting this over the top of it but it might not adhere if it is not compatible.

I have used the PPG flattener you mentioned above but I never liked the result. Plus, it was a pain to keep suspended.

BTW, thanks Clark. I may need to give you a ring soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the flex and flat is just PPG 2020 clear with a flex agent and flattener added.

It is catalyzed and will turn to a block of rubber if left in a cup.

I've never had a problem with gas or solvents getting on the clear.

Yes DP90 and flex and flat are two different animals. F&F holds up to time, DP will chalk after a year. I was just refering to my experiance with scotchbrite and paint. I wouldn't use it on a good flattened car. No different than a shiney paint jop sanded with 1000 before buffing.

Yes you can add your own flattener to any clear. I just prefer this route cause it's the same every time. I even touched up a car 2 years after it was painted. When done it could not be seen. I did use a body line to hide the blend.

I have my paint suplier mix the flat in when I do solid colors too. Makes it consistant. Same deal repainted a part of a car later on and it matched.

Now the guys with the full time shops with the mixing equipment can do the same thing.

Sik...are you one of the syndicate guys? I know they do great work. I am by no means and expert on paint. I just know this works for me and try to help others. Did you understand my explanation of the pearl colors in single stage paints? I really don't know how well the Flatz stuff works. I guess I should try it sometime but I know I can do a better job with the F&F. There's one secret that I don't let everybody know that adds that extra pop. I would bet you could figure it out. It's an old trick.

Root...that car is F&F. They had problems with the white spots. I forget if they just didn't strain it or what. Grumpy might know more. He was the middle man asking me stuff for them. I don't think they were on the HAMB at the time.

I just double strain mine and haven't had any of the white specs....well there was that time I painted a pair of headlights and didn't strain it :)

You still haven't answered me on the single stage metalic/pearl question. Would you ever shoot a metalic/pearl in single stage gloss? If not then why not? It just doesn't look as good as base clear. Same goes for flat.

  26. I used the dupount version on my coupe. I can get the paint number if you want. I sprayed a coat of normal clear over my color, wet sanded and another coat, wet sanded again, and then sprayed my final coat with the flattening agent. Sprays really nice. I didn't get any splotches or white specs. But mixed and strained very well. I have got some white specs using the house of kolors flattener though. But I've had the dupount on my car for 4 years, it's held up extremely well. I have 1 rock chip in the lower area of my grill shell. That's it! I drive my car quite a bit. I clean it with windex, Fantastic or the like. I have even used that liquid luster stuff on it were the bugs hit. Doesn't shine but the bugs come off a lot easier the next time!
    my 2 cents...

ive done 2. but it was on the cheap. one was a offroad race truck and the other one was cheap. i dont recommend it. u cant cut and buff. they are hard to spray. not for a rook. so much easier to base/clear

if its hotrod flatz thats a different story, i will spray their ss metallic and pearls all day long if i had to. since it wont be sanded or buffed.

Ive got some big issues with cleaning my car painted with flexed and flat. That clear is like a sponge, and its hard to get rid of smudges, and oil spots. Im not happy.
