I like the way Eddie just sort of disappeared for about 35 years and then came back and was competitive again a few years ago.

You're right about those flames, Dean. I have seen bad flames, but that one takes the prize.

Yea at one time Eddie was the fastest man on land and water. In his return to drag racing,he fished the engine in the crashed boat out of Firebird, rebuilt it and used in his 1st dragster in his return to drag racing.
Eddie has to be one of the friendliest drivers out there, always easy to chat with, and good stories to tell.

More from NHRA Detroit Nationals, 1960.
I took all the photos that I've been posting.
These are of my Nawlin's buddy, CJ Kearney and crew. He won Best Appearing Car. I saw CJ recently at a party in Nawlins. He's alive and kickin' at 80!

    Glenn,

Thanks for taking time to post all the great photo's. Was wondering if you had any photos of August Hartkopf from Austin, TX. in your collection.

I know he was at the 59 and 60 Nationals in Detroit. I have both races and August film.

If you have photos of August are any guys from Texas would you please post them.

    Thanks Again!

Those wer the "Trotters", a first class group of black racers from Columbus, Ohio. They won best appearing crew. We did not run them. Our class was B/MR. More of the Trotters below.

August Hartkopf was known as: "Hands". He had a growth problem (he was a giant) that couldn't be controlled. Hands died young. Was the nicest guy you ever met!
Hands wa known as a "super fast shifter" with his '56 (I think?) Chevy gasser.
I have some photos of Hands somewhere. I'll try to dig 'em up and send them.
