    Wow, that roadster looks(looked) nice!

I will fess up a renewed love for the nice stockers. Because they are nice (not rusty) and represent the era... and I have developed a deep appreciation for stock prewar Fords. I would LOVE to take that and make an early postwar style car. That rules you have a customer with that kind of committment to bring you a car that nice. Good for you.

We have had some cars that come in that we thought were really really nice and they came back from the stripper and they were complete junk. One was a convertible, so that is the only reason it was decided to go ahead and continue. So you can't always judge a book by it's cover... but that is one bitchin cover!

I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread to tell you the truth. And after being reminded about guys like D'Agostino I'm all the more sick. You're going to be slicing, dicing, rewelding, forming, and reshaping the body anyway, why ruin such a nice old car? I'm fine with starting with a perfectly straight body, or even body and framerails, but when it's all there, all in great condition, and it runs, why fuck with it?

However, you did say that this car might have been a hotrod before. What signs are there? I'm curious. 'cause if it had to be worked back to "original" from its previous rod incarnation, then I have no issues since it's not a "virgin" car.
If it really is a reworked rod, then I say go full speed ahead and bring her back to life.

Well, I'm one of the guys that gave you shit about the red 32 "museum" car.
But I also followed the build and I'll tell you, I would MUCH rather have the finished hot rod! You have great design sense and unquestionalble building skills.
I've thought this through and decided that "some day" in the future when (if) pure stock collectables become more valuable or desirable than hot rods, then shops like Danny's will make a handsome fee rippin' those rods apart and makin'em all back to stockers. It's like stock brokers - they make a living no matter which way the wind is blowin'!

Keep us posted on this build too. I'm a convert.

  7. Whew! That was alot of reading.

What a great car to start with.

A treasure trove of left over parts for someone....double bonus.

The shear number of closet restorers on the board is overwhelming.

Dave Simard once said you have to restore an old car before you can cut it up, looks to me you are just saving the guy alot of money;)

That car will be awesome when it is done.

    Please keep us posted.

  9. Typical HAMB BS drama.

Question for the whining haters: How many of you have ever passed on a good car that you could afford because it was too nice to modify to suit your tastes?

Next question: If $$$ were no object & you wanted a hot rod, would you start with a rusty piece of shit or the best car you could find?

Next question: Would you give a shit what anyone else thought of you for building the car you bought?

Gut it like a damn fish Danny.

Danny's too nice to tell some of you drama queens to hike up your panties and buy this car off his customer since you want to save it. You sound like a bunch of old cranky ladies.

"Oh no...he's going to cut up that PERFECT car." Bullshit. The fucking thing is green. That automatically makes it suspect and in need of a complete de-construction.

Where would this hobby be if someone didn't take a fireax to tin like this?

I'm envious. I wish they'd let me come over and dry hump the pile of parts they pitch in the corner. :D

Kidding. No need to let me dry hump the parts bin.

  11. To the guys that know me knows what kind of cars i like. I like cars that are hot rods and have the best of orginal parts that i can afford. I like cars that have unusual or different parts such as 25 louver hoods ,single hood pulls, I had friends and customers that would trade a lesser car and still be a nice roadster to build and cash, some wanted to buy the car, but Leo said that if he was going to have a nice hot rod he would start with as nice orginal car that he could afford. If you have young kids that are growing up and some day they want hot rods all they are going to find are cars that us old guys have hoarded and put away because the body only or cab only or the bed only or the cowl only parts are about gone. Guys I am like a lot of you if it had belong to me I don't know that I could have cut it up. Man, even the RADIO played great. Only if it had been a 32 Ford RoadsterBruce

I loved the pics of the roadster on the checkered floor w/the training mat under it. OK I'll stop, but I don't want to.

I'd rather see a SAR body hot rodded but I can understand the money deal. As I get older- I want to do less & less of the hard work. Building a car from the ground up using a rusted out body will quickly drain the wallet if you are paying for the work. Most shops get upwards of 80 bucks an hour so the better the car you start with, the better on the wallet.
Clearly- this customer has chosen a reputable shop to bring his dream to a reality. I say go for it. It's not our money anyway.

Or- tell the guy the body was beyond hope- cover it in the back for yourself & roll out the SAR body in bare steel for the new rod.:D
    Everyone's happy now!

It seems there is an unending number of guys out there with more money that brains. Most of us if we were able to get a car like that would charish it not trash it! My 2 cents only ,to each thier own.

why does a educated man,who has been successful in his life, get called a fool for building what he wants.

we all do things that make no sense.why build a motor with 500 hp,when gas is $5.00 a gallon.why build an off brand car, when you know that if you needed to sell it,nobody would want it.why have an old car that smokes, leaks oil,and you have to constantly spend money on to keep it running, when you could drive a new car.WE ALL KNOW WHY,IT IS WHAT WE WANT.

all of you welcome to stop by and say hi.we have a new shop, with some cool projects.and if you feel the need, step up and tell me how you really feel.:D

  18. I find it interesting that many aren't able to put themselves in someone else's shoes & see it from another angle. Am I jealous? Hell yes. Am I going to talk trash about a guy I've never met because he is achieving his dream? Hell no.

I'd be willing to bet that the owner has made his $$ by busting his ass. Now he can afford to have his dream. Good for him.

    Anything less is un-American.

True. Who hasn't looked at a stock restored 32 Roadster in a collection or museum and thought, What a great hotrod that would make! Anyway, they're not cutting the body up, it could always be put back to stock.

I might take you up on that next time I'm nearby. Not to talk about what somebody should do with their car but to see the shop and the projects.

  21. I'd be willing to bet that no one here, when this car is done, will look at it & say that it should be put back in it's stock form.... which I find funny after such a debate. :D

    Great project!

As someone has said it looks like the car could be reversed back to stock at a later date. Which will probaly never happen.

When it comes down to it....alll it is is bragging rights. he gets to say he cut up a real nice restored car. Who knows what the story will be but you know there will be one.

Anybody that has done work after someone else will know it's not easier, nor cheaper to start with a restored car. I'm sure there will be a lot of stuff that someone has done in the past that Hot Rod Pro will want to or have to redo. It's just our nature to want to do it better than the last guy.

Now starting with a cherry untouched car is another story. I would have a problem with that cause there are very few untouched cars left. A friend has a 53 buick Skylark with original paint. I talked them out of painting it even though it has chips, dings and checking. I had to convince him they are only original once....then they are either restored or hot rodded.

I know I'll be keeping an eye on this car. I love 33/34 roadsters and am sure it will be cool when done.

Neat old car, interesting project. Despite the whining of the Early Ford Preservation Society, keep us updated as the hot rod comes together.

well, he is a hot rod builder. He does some amazing fabrication work and his attention to detail is amazing.

I'm guessing he knows a lot of us like his work and wanted to keep us informed of what his new project is.

Sure some of you might not agree with starting with such a clean car... but you are also the same who would slam him for using fiberglass...
