The candy red Anglia of Panella Trucking was driven by Ken Dondero. What made the Anglia unqiue was that its blown SBC was hooked up to a manual 4 speed; and Dondero never missed a shift.

Stude, that was a fun tour of cars at Ozark. Isn't Ozark still open these days?

Tim that is the old Ozark, that was in OZARK. The new Ozark is in Rogersville.

You can still drive the old Ozark, they put houses on either side. It closed as a drag strip about 1974.

I dd a "ghost track" story on the old Ozark many years ago. The guy that opened the track, '63 I think it was, had no knowledge of drag racing. He had leased the land to a couple of guys to build the track, and they quit before it was done. His only option was to pay off the contractors, finnish, and then open the track

Hey Carl, so what is the name of the track where the locals burned the tower down and all that business? Wasn't it in Springfiel?

The guy in the far lane was probably thinking "Oh SHIIIIT."

  17. I always thought the radically lightened Anglia axle was a little extreme, but I guess it held up OK.

Hey Maz,the only thing about lightening axles that bothered me was how much weight got hung on the front end to balance the car,so lightening seemed redundant but very stylish.LOL

That would be the current Ozark Int'l Raceway. It's located closer to Rogersville, which is east of Springfield.

Yup. They burned it three or four times, and since it was pole constrution. the used a chain saw to cut it down once.

The old guy across the street was the one doing it. His son was a Christian county deputy, so they never charged him until.... The insurance company asked the FBI to get envolved and then he was arested. He died of a heart attack before he went to trial.

It was said that he also would set on his porch and fire a shotgun over the cars that missed the gate and turned around in his driveway.

He would also destroy anything that was left on the property after a race, and sprinkle roofing nails on the track and in the pits.

Do you get the idea he didn't want the track to be there?

This is a pic of the current tower, been there for about 15 years.
