If there's anthing more deranged than taking pictures of old cars, it might just be taking pictures of old signs. So here's a couple from right here in Ft. Wayne, Ind. And this one, that requires a video clip to fully appreciate.
Tyler, MN If you get a chance, go to downtown Williams, AZ, on old 66. A lot of the old neon hotel signs have been restored and are working. I have some pics here but I'll be darned if I can find 'em. One more, local cruise spot, Ingleside, IL.
Not a neon sign, but a cool painting on the side of a building for a tire shop that is no longer there. Check out that indian rolling that tire with a "mag" wheel
These are scans that did not come out very well, but something is better then nothing. I guess it is about time to buy a new scanner. The Frostop was located near Mt Orab Ohio on SR74 (long since an "old" SR). Picture was taken in 88' I included the miniature golf place because it was located on the same property, just to the right of the previous photo ...must have been a cool little place in it's day. The Buckleys was originally another name and now is another name again, but they kept that old sign. I think it is located in Rushville Indiana. The Champion sign is/was located in North West Indiana, I cannot remember where it was located. Possibly US 41.
That big dekalb sign was a weathervane that was at the dealers. I had three of them, double sided. Great sign. Cadillac dave
. One of only a handful thought to exist today.... . Not to politically correct and just about 90 years old oil sign ...... . .
Here are a couple I found in Nebraska last month. The first one is in Omaha on the top of the old Ford plant, that hasn't made a Ford since the model T. It's still standing and they are restoring the building. The next one is in a little town by the name of Springfield, just outside of Omaha.
Not a neon sign, but styled after one. This is my business logo I designed and drawn by D.A. Designs of Santa Fe Springs, CA. My fiance and I have a landscaping business, we work with cactus, succulents, desert trees and shrubs, we design, install and perform maintenance on cactus gardens. One day when we make it big I'll have a real neon sign made out of it.
Good Ole Pete's Kitchen & the Satire Lounge...located on historic Colfax in Denver Colorado... some more Denver signs...
what Denver looked like in 1927...this was the Theatre Arts district...sad that its been all torn down. ...more denver signs. Denver's Union Station...
Hmm, I don't know how I missed this thread before now. I went to school for photography, and did my thesis work on neon signs and how they relate to America's love affair with the automobile. I've got tons of photos of old neon that I've taken through the years.
All I have is a crappy car and crappy point-and-shoot camera. But these are both local to my house near north Fort Worth.
