History Jim Harrell modified, 1946.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jimmy B, Jul 24, 2008.

  1. I was going through scans of Veda Orr's Hot Rod Pictorial (revised edition) and came across this picture of Jim Harrell's Modified (1946).
This mod was originally built by Bob Giovanine in '39/'40 does anyone know what happened to it or does anyone have pics of it later than '46?
    Cheers

    flatheadpete,
It is a pity that posts like this sometimes fall between the cracks. If more People posted photos of Hot Rods from the 30s, 40s, 50s & 60s people might be inspired & stop building copies of regurgitated ****.

  12. Amazing... everything I dream about is narrowed. Looks like I need to this book.

it seems that most of the modifieds from that time have disappeared.

I too would love to know what became of it.

  18. Hey mate, I would say the rails were '25-'27 Chev. '28 had the 107" wheelbase. I can't help with the radiator, but I would also like to know what it is! I have a twisted & rusted '26 frame that would be perfect for this application ;) I also have enough spares to build a modified & a rear engine lakester :D

Greetings, Yes, this is the Jim Harrell of "Harrell Los Angeles" heads. I sold my last set of the heads in 1956, but have just been able buy a set for my 12 year old grandson, who is an Old School Hot Rodder. Fortunately, Gordy Cushman of Illinois is currently making more, from the original patterns. Jim was my uncle and he died in 1976. Thanks for your interest, Roger Harrell

Thanks for sharing, I have also wondered about the Harrell name, as his heads and 2x2 are my favorite 59ab speed equipment.

It's rare when you can see pics of the evolution of a car from back in the day. We sort of take advantage of it because we can see cars being built right in front of our eyes here on the HAMB. But man when you see pics of one being built back in the hey day it's on a whole other level huh? Very Cool thread and pics.
