has anyone bought the straight axle kit from speedway? just wondering how the quality is i seems to be a pretty good price thinking it would be nice on my 60 falcon so i can make room to put a 292 in it. Anyone have some pics of first gen falcons with straight axles showing leaf spring mounts and install. im pretty sure im makeing the front end out of 2x3 rec tube but would like to see what some of you have done to build a nice gasser. new to gassers only ever built early hot rods so far
    thanks

I used a 46" eye to eye speedway axel on the 65 comet I built. The axels are decent along with the leaf springs......BUT the bolts and bearings are shit.I replaced all the bolts in the kit with grade 8 bolts and used good usa bearings. Heres a pic of the comet [IMG] [IMG]

I have installed 2 Speedway and one from another company that were all priced acout the same, and the Speedway is of better quallity. When setting it up, set the car at the desired ride hi. (considering the wheels, spring arc and underside of where the rails will be) then set the axle ass. under the car. Once this is done, this will tell you where the car will really sit ( probley higher then you thought). Once the axle ass. is up under the car on a floor jack, rotate the axle to where the king pins are on a 6-10 degree back angle for best handling. Also look at installing a front end dampener shock as this will help at high speeds. You should be able to use the stock steering box. Bill

That's what I figured but I thought I'd use that as a last resort. Thanks.
