guys Im in a hell of a bind here. I am down to the cosmetics on my 50 buick super. And to date I have been busting my *** on trying to work out some type of a mod where I can get this hood to lift either from the front or through a tilt. I went out and bought the la sabre tilt hood parts and spent 4 days installing it. I did a search here on the hamb and found the thread that shows how another fella installed the la sabre tilt system. The problem I run into with that is that up at the fire wall my hood rolls down 7-8 inches to meet the fenders at the fire wall and his mod was with a straight hood. At this point I really dont give a **** if the hood tilts or opens from the front. I looked at some of the old mercs and their hood design is very close to my buick. So at this point I am frustrated and clueless as to how to finish this part of my project. I dont consider myself stupid but I have never tackled this part of a project before. Therefore any help I can get would be much appreciated. Please look at the pics below and help me if you can.

  2. Hard to tell from this what the actual problem is. I'm kinda guessing you're running into a clearance issue with the hood corners hitting the doors? Might have to radius the corners to have the hood tilt forward.

Clarify the question and I'm sure someone will pop up with an answer for you. Good luck.

Yes Sir, That is the problem. I am using the two front original hood latches and the original pins on the hood, when I pull the hood releases on the inside of the car , the hood pops up about two inches. Then when I go to the front of the hood, I have to pick it up and push it towards the windshield, this is where the problem starts. The back lower corners of the hood that originaly seat at the top of the fender rolls up, hits the chrome at the windshield and then proceeds to hit the front corner pannel of the door. I looked at the option prior to answering and to radius the corners of the hood, would really look bad with my body lines. Are there any other option? I hope this reply helps.

You may also want to look at Saab 900 tilt hood hinges at a junkyard to see if they will work or adapt to your application - those cars have tilt fronts and the hinges are fairly stout - and they pull out about 6" before you lift the hood. It might be a good option for this case.

I know a real trick idea!
Have the hood hinge from the side!!!
In fact, have it hinge from both sides and if you pull both latches at once, be able to take it off all together!

what about using a after market hood tilt kit for the F-100's.the hood will pop up and the rear rolls forward a few inches on a track then will tilt forward ?

    just an idea
