Time to squirt the trailer - my buddy insisted that we rig up a rotisserie to make it easier to spray - I had my reservations as I envisioned this becoming a major fiasco, but 20 minutes later we had it mounted and spinning like a dream. I thought we came up with some Hamb Friendly ideas so here they are......we don't need no stinkin' high buck props. And YES the tongue was temporarily mounted upside down to make it easy to mount. Yes we were too lazy to move the junk truck off the lift.
Not too shabby. Probably could've used an old engine stand too. I am going to have build something like that for my newest project. BTW: what did you use to clean the trailer before priming it? I thought about Eastwood products, they have some supposedly good cleaners.
An engine stand would be a fine choice - we used what we had laying about. I DA'd the frame and then treated it with OSPHO. There's probably better stuff out there but I already had this left over from an old project. After the OSPHO we used CATERPILLER Primer and of course CATERPILLER PAINT! It actually flowed out pretty nice for Bulldozer Paint.
Oh man, good thing my wife has a sense of humor. Up till Friday she worked for CAT in Kansas. Bunch of jerks wouldn't give her a promotion or a decent raise. Thanks for the heads up on how you prepared the trailer for painting.
I found a deal on some 5/4's wolmanized (sp?). I certainly liked some of the other suggestions better, but I was simply running out of dough. So for now it's just wood.
Has any one ever used a couple of engin stands? if so let me know how they worked as a make shift rotisserie.
Sorry for the late response - I lost track of this post. Nothing special about the 5/4 decking - it's just regular wolmanized (sp?) deck boards. My car is pretty light and I have bracing directly under the tires so I had no need to get 2 x 10's. The 5/4" actually measurers 1-1/16" so it was plenty for me. I caught it on sale at the local lumber place so I grabbed it - I'd much rather have done this in polished aluminum diamond plate, but the budget wouldn't allow that - oh well - them's the breaks!!!!! Good luck with your trailer - keep us posted how you make out.
I just got out of the hospital, so it don't matter how long it took for your response. I'm just redecking my car hauler and thought maybe you had an inside good deal. Jerry
I am using one as one end of a rotissurie for a frame. The frame has trailer hitch so a peice of 2inch pipe slides right in. The other end is a homade frame again with a two inch pipe that slides in a larger pipe. Works great.
