I was the guy that shot the video...is it kinda obvious it was my first attempt at shooting, editing, trying to figure out the computer software to do the editing, attempting to fix the sound..........??

There are a few clips I've posted on youtube of Steve's Nova making passes at Irwindale; as well as one of Mr. Rich and Steve on the street. Just type altered wheelbase in the search area, and it should take you to them. Or try my screen name bowtie0069.

responding to the guy above who is building the altered wheel base FORD....

YOU GO, GUY.....All the ford guys would salute you...Dyno Don, Hubert and Houston Platt, Eddie Schartmann, etc, etc

  13. I'm with Groucho, an altered wheelbase Fairmont is insulting. Especially when you throw an axle at it. I always thought that guy was a bonehead. Now I'm sure. He needs to go over to Import Tuner magazine and just bury himself. What a putz!

Here are some pictures you might like to refer to:

Why is he a putz? Because he came up with an idea to try something that no one else attempted? How is that any different from all these cars that we are looking at? I'm sure alot of these guys who built these AWB cars in their backyards made people want to scratch their heads. Now, we revere the very cars that were scoffed at back then. Sure- Steve might be a bit on the wacky side. I can say that ,having spent the last four years, helping him see his projects through to completion. But I can also say that you will not find a person more dedicated to the love of cars and racing than Steve. The Fairmont was an exercise in what can be done to a forelorn looking car, and try to make it something different. Thats all. Guess I'm a putz as well. I welded the thing together.;):D

  18. Magnante knows more about this stuff than most. He built the car for fun with a bunch of parts he had. How is he a "bonehead" as you say? Obviously you don't know him. How many other writers are building or even writing about AWB/AFX cars? Have you ever seen his Wilshire Shaker? He built this car in Hot Rod when nobody gave a shit about these type of cars. And saying Steve should be involved in the import scene shows you are the "putz". He hates that crap..... "To much Disco Sauce!"

Yea, That was called my "One Wheel" wheelstand.

You know if you just leave the gas pedal all the way to the floor when the damn thing starts going up....that's what happens.

It was pretty normal though, you know, when you are 24 years old and just want to go "fast" or "up" ... it didn't really matter which way.....

I was just looking at the History of LIONS part three. There is a whole section devoted to AWB cars.

    BUMP. Bringing this thread back.

Here is a shot of my bastard project. Yes, it was a 4door. And yes, I used sections of the quarters and the doors from a '65 Coronet Convertible to do it. Both cars were too far gone to do anything with.

Hubert came out to the 20th Reunion at Bakersfield. He hung out with us in the A/FX pits for awhile. Some in our group had him pose for some pictures . It was really cool seeing him, as well as Gas Ronda around our cars.
