Aw man but that s just 7 and a half weeks salary. I wish I could have ran into 32 truck for 7 1/2 weeks salary when I was 16 working at Von's !!! No kid can do that in 7 1/2 weeks!
Sold my full fendered five window in 64' for $350.00 . Olds with cad/lasalle, crower u-fab .Newly wed, no place to keep it, lost interest, etc. Dont even have a picture of it . This was my second ride , I had traded my 34' tudor for the deuce. I saw the 34' in a junk yard later on, i guess the guy i traded with never got it running. After many years of hibernation I'm now back with a 40' tudor. I really regret losing so much time so young guys (or old farts) get off the fence and do something now!! Times a-wasting.

While not 32's even in the last 25 years here in NZ I have seen steel bodied 33/34 dirt track racecars (but pretty much not since 25 odd years ago), remember stopping to check one out, lord knows there wouldn't have been a square inch of un beaten steel in it !!! probably spent 20 years as a race car at that time (or more).
After doing the math I have just sold my 32 3 window body as the car was heading towards $100K and I just couldnt justify that. Wondering how it could get that high??? I may regret it one day but today it makes sense. On the upside the guy who bought it is going to get it built and run a 409 and 4 speed. Im stoked to know that and Im sure in 10 years what he paid today will seem cheap.
Holy fuck...!!! That door is going for more than it costs to build a bare-bones "A".... I've always liked the "A" better than the Deuce anyway... No, that wasn't a poo joke...
I am almost 72 years old and was raised in a small central Texas town of 5,000 people. In 1952 there were only 4 32 Fords still in town and two were hotrods and an old man had both a 32 2 door sedan and a 32 pick up. He would not sell them. One of the 32 coupes which was chopped and channeled and street driven sold in 53 for $250.00 with out engine or transmission, just a roller. A good job in 53 was a dollar an hour. That would be equal to about $5000.00 at $20.00 an hour today. Model A roadsters could be bought and driven home then for between $50.00 and $75.00. Coupes and sedans were even cheaper. I paid $25.00 for a running 35 Ford flat back sedan and $75.00 for a 29 Model A RPU with twin fender mounted spares in 54. Everything was cheaper than 32 Fords. 32 through 34 Plymouth and Dodge coupes were almost free because no body wanted them. 31 thru 34 Chevys were also almost free because of all the wood in the body made them hard for 17 to 20 year olds to build.
In the early 70's I had a chance to buy a hi-boy roadster, complete, painted, upholstered, and running for $2k, and/or a channeled deuce 3w body (frame & body only) for $500. I was only 16 and just started a job - not enough $; plus my Dad was NOT going to loan me the money for a hot rod! In the late 70's I had a chance to buy a very nice, complete 5w, all gennie but not running, for $1800. Had the money but was going to college and bought a stereo instead. That was REAL stupid; obviously I hadn't learned anything about making good financial decisions; that was not in my party 'curriculum'.
Me and a bud used to sneak into the old Devils Bowl and do laps on our Cushman Eagles. The caretaker would let us do 4,5 laps then come run us off. Always had a big grin on his face.!!
In 1973 I paid $500.00 for a really nice, low millage 1966 Fairlane XL-500 convertible for a daily driver (a guy my Dad worked with at Ford Dearborn proving grounds had it, and this car was like new) ,.... I also bought a Deuce 3/W project with no engine or trans for $1,200.00 about a month later ( I had to take a loan out for it),..... from time to time there have been lucky guys that get smoking deals on a deuce,..... but the market at any given time has always been high.
cheap? cheap compaired to what? I dont think they were ever cheap.. thats really a relitive term you know..maybe cheap at todays prices..but back than they werent cheap to those people at the cost of living..thats fuzzy math
My parents bought this 32 Woody in '67, for $700.00 when I was four. That's me on the running board, next to my dad. It was my mom's idea, boy did she have foresight! I inherited it!
I bought this 32 Roadster in 1963 for 200.00. I didn't have the money or the ability to do the car, and sold it, but kept the grill & shell, firewall, dash, windshield posts, and top assembly. It took a long time to find another 32 body, but those parts are on this car now. The flame never died. HemiDeuce.
After looking at so many of these old racing photos, I think that I am going to need a strong dose of Prozac.
This one might top them all! This 3-window was purchased for $50. Later traded for a puppy! Must have been a great dog! $6,100 dollars The door for the other side is @ $4,500 and still has 4 or 5 hours left on the auction. That's almost 11 grand ( if the other door stays the same $$$ ) for a pair of doors. That is crazy money, I am so glad my 32 3W had perfect doors

Prices like that scare the hell out of you when you are on the road and you spend the night in a hotel room. Will your car still be there in the morning? That's enough to give you nightmares!
