I found a car I want to buy. It was purchased in 1960 and has a '63 tag on the plate. It's VERY solid and complete. I don't have a photo of the actual car but here's what I found online that is pretty much the same thing. The car I'm looking at is completely stock (still has the original www tires including the spare) but this shows the possibilites.
We'll play a little game of trivia and see who knows what kind of car it is. I know (now) but had never seen or heard of one of these before.
I plan on selling my '41 Plymouth coupe, I just can't pass up this little sweetheart.

  8. Bet Chico at Mooneyes will know. I think he did a yellow one a few years ago.

I'm cool with it, but there will be some here that will question your loyalty to the USA. What ever you do don't put red wheels on it!!!

Don, Your treading on VERY tricky ground with this one. If the owner is willing to give it to you with an extra $200 to haul it off, go for it. If he actually expects to get paid don't go more than $25.
I'm not above bribery so if I get to install the fart can and rear wing I say "what a fantastic find, hope you get it".:eek::cool::D

Yes, it's a Toyopet Crown Deluxe. From what I can gather it's rather rare. No one seems to know exactly what they're worth but the price is pretty reasonable on this one.

Long history, but it was originally purchased by a serviceman who had it shipped back to the US. In '63 it had some mechanical issues that he couldn't fix. He gave it to a friend, the friend moved away and gave it to his brother. The brother passed away and his widow has now given it to her son. He wants to sell it.
It has been in storage until about a year ago and now it's setting outside. I accidently found it while turning around in a driveway.

No rust through that I can see anywhere. The front seat is tore up some, all the glass is intact.

so do i get a prize for knowing its a Toyopet???:D

it is super rare in the US and probably in Japan also now. I suspect a collector abroad would pay good money for it.

If you can get it right, do it and have fun with it. Hell, like it or not, a Toyota is almost an American car anymore. Most of us have had one as a dependable beater, if nothing else.

I say go for it...I think it is cool and whether anyone likes it or not, this will ultimately be some of things (even newer) that our kids and grandkids will be uncovering in a few years and wanting to "rod" 'em....consider yourself ahead of the ultimate "curve."
Think about "rice burner barn finds".......glad I will be off the earth to see that.

To my knowlage Toyopet is a coach builder, or a body MFG. They made the FJ45 wagon bodies for toyota. For those they started with a chassis with grill, fender, cowl only. They(toyopet) made the rest of the body. I only have enough knowlage about toyota's to be dangerous. LandCruisers I know a bit more.

    Cool car.

I don't think you should be. Enduring the humiliation of driving that thing is shame enough:D Now you should be banned for life from the Nightmares. ;)

Hmm... Yesterday at work we were talking about hotrodding a late 50's - early 60's Datsun pickup. KooL idea about the Toyopet. The black / white car looks really cool. I'd roll in that...

I wouldn't give two sh*ts what anyone thinks. It's different and it's your money. Buy it, drive it, and enjoy it. 'Nuf said.
