Piss on all thse nay-sayers. I like it. It's got all the potential to be a cool little ride.

215 buick aluminum V8 hooked to a T5 spinning 3.90's in a 10 bolt would be cheap as dirt and fun as a room full of whores.

You could be as stupid or as crazy with the build as you want, and not take any heat for chopping up classic american iron.

Probably a fine chance that 70's toyota P/U truck front suspension would bolt in, or go in without too much trouble.

If you dont want it, I sure do!!!

    No popcorn on this one!

Frenchy here I had e mailed Nancy Miller in regard to this 1960 Toyopet. I was hoping to see how much she wanted for it as I had a friend in California that was looking to buy it .Nancy had e mailed me pictures of the car. Cool shot with the barn in the back ground. Are you planning to leave it original or customizing it. You can visit my website as I have a 1958 Toyopet in original condition and I have another 1958 Toyopet that I will be restoring in the next year or so.I also have a 1959 Toyopet mostly for parts or maybe restorable. I also know of another 1960 Toyopet in a barn. You can visit my website to see the 1958 Toyopet and other project cars that I have in the works ( 1932 Ford Hot Rod with a V12 Lincoln ).

    Thanks

hehe na, ya got it backword L becomes R. "deck the harrs with boughs of horry, fa-ra-ra-ra-ra ra-ra-ra-ra" :D that said, while it may be impossible to find a pic of a rooed toyota, its not so improbable that it has happened. its small and light , and theres no doubt in my mind that if some buiider happened upon it in a junkyard in the early 60's he(or she... sometimes i forget how many lovely lady greasmonkeys we have here) would not hesitate to drag it home and drop a hot flatty, inline, or hemi in there.

anyone who was there that can chime in on this one? what would you have done with it back then?

Toyota is making V-8s now. I'd love to see one of those with an O/D box (stick or auto - but stick would be cooler) behind it.

Of course, you'd have to strip all the late-model covers, wires, etc off it. You could keep the injection, add stacks up through the hood, and really nail that Gasser look.

I think it'd be bitchin', and the late V-8 would be easier to find than one of those limo hemis...as cool as they are.

Do what ain't been done before. It's harder that way...and SO much more rewarding.

You'd be the only member of the Toyopet Gasser Association...

  17. I didn't read the whole thread so sorry if this is a repeat, but...

The odds are good someone from Japan will pay big money for it. Land is such a premuim there that very few of their older cars were kept around. It certainly would be worth an eBay auction to find out. I mean.. if you like it that's one thing, I like a lot of cars, but if by example I could turn a $2500 deal into a $12,500 deal for the time it would take to bring a car home and clean it up a little? SOLD and I'll go find another toy.

And if it don't sell? You're out a few more bucks, still have the car and can still play with it.

  18. I think It's cool. What if you put a Toyota NASCAR engine in it?

I like that car. I work for the Toyota Plant here in San Antonio and we've got a late 50s Toyota P/U in our visitor's center that looks like it's never been on the road. I wonder if one of the 5.7s out of the Tundra would fit in there???

Tradition? Time periods? You mean there's actually "rules" for what we can use? I did not know that (in my best Johnny Carson impression). When does the HAMB collective get off the 64 thing. That's for the classifieds, and even then not delivered by Moses himself. WTF?

It's a neat little car from the past. That's what we're all really about, isn't it? I've posted some restored stock stuff with reasonbly positive response. I say bring it on Donzie. I think life would be pretty boring in a world full of Model As and Deuces. I love em too but not 24/7.

I hope it all works out. It's nice to see how diverse automotive taste is in most every era. Seeing that roll around again is kind of exciting. If you get it by Sat you ought to bring it to the Cooke school show in Northville as is.

I like it. Why not and who cares. At least your's is a Toyota. My wife wants an early 60's Vauxhall. Wish me luck in finding one. I think I could hand form one before I could find a decent one.

Looks like you're gathering a good response overall, some negative but it was probably your title that stirred that up.

Sometimes these topics go all astray. Notice very few are picking on the Moon car. It's done and of those that responded, people seem to like it.
Kinda like anything, the naysayers all come out. If yours was done and you said "Hey Look at this!" I am sure the comments would be different.
I say Buy it, Drive it and you will figure out what you want to do with it as you go, maybe not even be a "HAMB" style car and there is nothing wrong with that. Plenty of options out there.
    Enjoy it.

  28. Was called a Toyopet.

Looks like a cross between a '50 Chebby and a Borgward. Those stinkin' japs could or can copy anything couldn't they.

Oh yea I don't care if you buy it, but I don't think I'd paint it flat black with red wheels and try and pass it off as trad.

They just weren't a very popular car back then we were still made at the japenese back then. The car would have been known as jap junk

  29. Wow does that bring back memories. I lived in Guam in the mid 70's and had a Toyopet Crown Deluxe. It was a right hand drive model.

I drove it to high shcool. When the 4 banger crapped out I put a 283 in it, welded the front fenders to the hood and made the front end one piece and flip open and put a straight axle from a dodge pickup under the front.

I was 16 and the thing was pretty scarry, had to leave it when my dad got transfered back to the states.

    Oh yeah, don't buy it.:D
