Just for fun, if you were pulling together the ultimate hot rod kit of basic parts, what components would be in that bag?
    -Chassis
    -Suspension
    -Differential
    -Engine
    -Transmission
    -Steering
    Let the debate begin!

    Heck No.

Just a list of basic components to start up a rod.
I figured the body, interior, and other luxury items would be too personal, so just the basics and just for the fun of the discussion.
(I am not doing market research! Ha!:D)
We are home watching Edouard limp in and thought this would be fun while the power is still on!:D

I would say if you are going to call it a kit, you need most all the componets to make an actual drivable vehicle.
    Frame
    Front suspension package
    Rear suspension package
    Wheel and Tire Package
    Engine
    Transmission
    Steering
    Body
    Seat
    Wiring harness

I would thnk the body would not be too personal, as well, its not really a vehicle without one.

Model A ford + donor car for power train + swap meets = Hot rod. New parts are for street rods.

I'm not going to run down the entire list, but when it comes to drivetrain everything I build gets a 9" Ford. Three pedals is also high on my list of "must have's".

For me I kinda knew what I wanted. Got the engine first, then found the body, then the wheels. At that point it was my "Car".:D

I would start with a body, then drivetrain, then build chassis to fit. Too many options for great cars.

So if your hot rod has 1 or more new parts, it becomes a street rod?

i think hes asking what year and make of components would be ideal for the "kit" (or basic) hot rod, i think the k word is throwing this off.

if i understand this thread correctly......then they wrote a book about this topic:
"how to build a traditional hot rod"
by mike bishop and vern tardel

hard to beat that parts list really. but everyones lists will be different cause thats the point of building a hot rod anyways
