Gents, I will be using 16-inch Kelseys on my full fendered 5w Coupe. How much drop can I use on the front axle while using 600x16 www tyres and still have decent clearance for steering? Any first hand knowledge and/or pictures? Thanks in forehand.
I have the 6:00 x 16 WWW on my 32 sedan and Kekseys,,, I have 40 fordy brakes and a 4" dropped axle with reverse eye spring and the original 32 front crossmember. The only time I have ever had any tire/tyre scrub is on hard turns going up tight turns in driveways,,,which is very seldom. HRP
It's not just the axle. You also have to factor in whether the spring has reversed eyes or not and how flat (or arched) the spring is as well. And the front crossmember too, stock or an A model which is often used to get an inch or so extra drop - and is standard in trhe aftermarket. All these things can give several inches in variance in ride height independent of the axle drop.
Fantastic - thanks a lot guys. I forgot to say - the frame and crossmemeber is all stock. 4-inches and reverse eye, thats what I needed to know. Thanks. Hotrodprimer - what a FANTASTIC hot rod! That is the car of my dreams right there. With a family of four...and a Roadster in the garage - that car is exactly what I need. Wanna part-trade with a good 5w project?
