Lowering a f100?

    I am considering buying a 1960 f100...assuming the front end is stock, what is invovled in lowering the front?

    Doe these have twin I-beams or something else upfront?

    OPPS, I read that wrong, thought it said 69.

    Dropped axle or after market IFS. Don't think the frame width is the same.
    Lots of options though.
     
  6. Dropped axle, aftermarket springs, lower profile tires (not my recommendation), or a combination of the 3.

    2" dropped axle, 4.5" dropped mono front and 6" dropped mono rear will get you this look. later,Bill

    novatattoo, that is perfect!...Just what I am looking for!...Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you by 'mono'?

    You would think an educator would have figured that out!!! :) Before I became an assistant principal, I taught special ed. and coached baseball, so the picture really helps! :)

    BTW I am in the market for a pre-64 driver...looking for a cheap piece of crap truck that runs, steers, and stops...I have an ad in the Wanted section.

    For me the best is probably the more expensive way, but that Crown Victoria swap is supposed to be good or chose a Industrial Chassis Inc set up which uses a Dodge Dakota swap which is well priced and you instantly get coil IFS, plus disc brakes, lower front and power rack steering should you want that.

    I got a 1960 and I am going the Dakota route, I dont like the leaf fronts on F100's they roll too much on hard cornering and the front suspension travel is very limited, plus push pull steering is a pain.

    My buddy put the drop axle on his 56 and it has a lot of negative camber that he can't get rid of. It looks like yours has some too, what is the cure?

    Aside from the alignment shop bending it I don't think there is. After I installed mine an noticed the camber problem I immediately called the place where I got it. Had them call the manufacturer. Thought just maybe the jig got messed up. Manufacturers answer to my problem, "you must have bent spindles". BS! my reply. So, I just have never done anything w it. But yes it is very noticable and I don't like it.

    The pic does not show it, but ours has some negative camber in it too. Since we had the stock axle dropped, the only cure for it is to re-heat and adjust the axle. We are leaving next week on a 1000 mile road trip with ours...so we'll see how bad it is on the tires :cool:.

    Exact same thing happened to my buddy, I think he bought his through CPP but I can't remember who makes it. He took it to an alignment shop and they bent the axle up in the middle to make up for it but the axle started hitting the engine cross member. He has since installed a tubular cross member but the axle still hits it on hard bumps. I don't think he has taken it back to the alignment shop to try to get more of the camber out since the he put the new cross member in though. I know I have seen other trucks with a dropped axle with out this problem, what gives?

    Yeah my buddy has a dropped tube axle in 56 and its perfect. He can run 85 down the highway without a shake, wobble or drift. I don't get it.

    Mine........ well I'll just keep driving the crap out of it. :D

    Just thinking out loud here, how much camber is built into the spindles (if any)? They can be flipped can't they?

    Just to throw another thought out there, you can do what I did to my 62. I wanted something fairy low, but did not like all the options that I have seen, so I insalled the front center x-member out of a 92 F-150 into the stock 62 frame rails.

    That way I could keep the same bolt patteren, have disc brakes, newer gearbox, also parts are cheap, and easy to get. Then I added dropped I-beams, and the truck rides fantastic and drivers great.

    Did anyone ever decide if this can be done... I want to lower the one i just got but don't want to go through tires all the time... Plus can't handle the look of a lowered vehicle with toed tires...:eek:

    insane 1 do you have a build thread or pics of this done or being done...

    is anyone aware of and lowering components for the front of a '64 f100? I cant find hardly anything, I wana drop the one I just got, but don't really wana put a whole IFS swap in...

    Sorry I never did a build thread, but I took several pics, I will just have to dig them up.

    As for the rear it was just flipped, and I moved the whole wheelbase forward 1" to center everything up in the wheel openings. You will also have to notch the rear frame for axel clearence.

    I sold the truck about 2 months ago to a guy in Indy. Flew to D/FW airport, and drove it back home. Said he was going to have it at The PileUp
