like the ***le says, lets see some of your home fabricated parts and parts made from other objects. lets not make this an issue of what make or model your car is , it's all about the parts and what you made or made them out of. thats what i like so much about this forum, lots of creative thinkers and people who think outside of the box. I'm usually into imports, but if you can take a piece of raw metal and turn it into something useful for your car, or take an everyday object and make a useful and cool part out of it (think the frying pan dust shields thread, very cool) then it's all the same. I will let you guys start off posting,i've built some pretty unique stuff, I do work in an aircraft plant machine shop, but i've hit a wall on some ideas, and I hope this thread will get them going again. personally I buy almost nothing pre made, and even if i do,it's just to make something else out of. :)

I created this thread mainly because it seems to be getting more rare,to find people who actually make their own stuff. in this day and age of the net,and everything available RIGHT NOW, people just don't seem to take the time to be creative anymore. I'm kind of in a strange position, I don't like most of the tuner sites,no one seems to know much except stereos and ****, I love this site, but most of you don't like my car, so this is my kind of we all have a common ground we all like to build stuff thread. I personally like nothing more then to come up with an idea, then take some object and make it the way I want it. I think being able to do that is really an art form, and we have a lot of artists on here in that respect. :D

I tried to make a scoop but instead made a mess, so I emptied an olive oil can from the kitchen, cut the end off at an angle, cut a hole in the side, and mounted it on the throttle body. Oh yeah, painted it black.:D

  9. Thats my thoughts too. REAL rodders kinda just do it. If I thought about all the **** I made "from something else" and wrote them down here, I would be typing for weeks. Oh, and btw, like the roll bar seat, looks good.

I think I know what you're getting at. But I think this is a trait inherent to creative people in general. I grew up watching my dad build chicken coops and tool sheds out of discarded wood from worksites. He even built a plywood camper shell for his el camino when he took a road trip.
I think I got his creativity. I used to collect **** bikes when i was a kid and try to build new ones.
When my friends and i got into modeling we would scratch build all kinds of **** with whatever you could find.
We did the same when we got older and started restoring/customizing our cars.

I've seen a lot of people build awesome **** in every aspect of life.....it's pretty inspiring.

That being said...I hardly work on cars these days....but there is always a weird bicycle being built in my garage. And I just made this Remote resevoir brake resevoir for my wife's car to replace the leaky one she had.
It's and old pump oiler, I had to make a bung on my drill press since I don't have a lathe but it came out okay i think. Left it bare metal cuz she liked it.

A couple of photos of some things I've done, some are Toys I've made, hence Toymaker:D
1st photo is a steering wheel quick release I made years ago for my sons IMCA, made a broaching tool from a 7/8" truck ubolt nut and pressed it thru the aluminum. Then welded a nut to the steering column and 'walla'. Kinda missed the mark with the "pin" hole and hade to sleeve it. We now use it in out HA/GR.
2nd Photo is a tool too cut out aluminum wheel halves for a 3 pc wheel I made for my rocket cars.
3rd photo is a cutting tool used too cut the toy car "Pan" or frame.
4th photo.....I made this tool that attached to my lathe to machine the tops off of 351W pistons and use them in my 302, netting just over 10 to 1 CR. That was fun!
5th photo is of a couple of my personal LBR Rocket cars:D The Dragster has my 3 pc wheels on it
6th photo is close up of car and wheel
7th photo is a BONDO plug I made to vacuum form Dragster bodies.
8th photo is a Bead Roller I made using 28 spline axle ends for the gears
Man I haven't touched most of this stuff in years..... I hope I haven't offended anyone with my toy experience but it sure was FUN going back tonight! Rocky

I am tired of guys wanting to tell folks that it has been done before, so what!
Surely this is a place for fresh stuff to be posted even if it is not on that special privileged 1st thread in the archives that somebody thought about a year ago.
Then they tell you you should have searched it 1st.
My reply, with all these attention seeking fancy ***les how is anybody ever to be sure they have searched to the satifaction of another.
Let it go and see what comes out of it, if you dont like it dont post on it and let nature take its course.
If it is a no good then it will die in the A@#$ aways.

I guess that would pretty much be my whole car. I have built every piece of it from something else or heavily modified parts from other cars. The engine and drivetrain remain internally as found tho.

Here is a brake pedal made from a discarded 3/4 ratchet and some water pipe. The accelerator pedal is made from a handle from a crank winch from a boat trailer.
Just some of the stuff we came up with for a low buck Rock Crawler.

It seems the sarcasm was too subtle in my earlier post. I completely agree with you and was trying to get that point across.
