A great example of why the custom car scene went away for so long. There is just nothing likable about that car.

Buick power is neat, but other than that, yeah, it is sort of ugly. :D

Things were a little over the top by then end of the 50's. Okay, a lot over the top. The dash isn't too bad...

Was it ever really lost? I seem to recall that it was sitting in Joe's shop until he died, and then his widow sold it.

I think this car would have worked out a lot better without the top, sportscar style. It has the beltline even height with the fenders, and an interesting grille, trunklid and tail light arrangement, but that roof throws it all out of proportions for me.

Imagine it with a slightly curved gl*** windshield in a thin frame without any roof at all. I could see it working that way.

    Yep...

Too much Section, not enough Chop.

And the big windows in it throw the lines off too.

Love the choice of Parts though...

Nailhead with a XK Ch***is, and those beautifull wheels.

    I'm glad its being saved...

The one photo in the link shows an old article on the car and it looks like a dual-quad 283.

you got to take a car like that and consider the custom scene at the time it was built. look at those Car Craft covers. some crazy lookin stuff got built back then... other than the Jade Idol the one cover could have been the "ugly customs" issue.

while not a masterpiece of style it is still very cool because of the history behind it and it survived all these years.

If Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo were going to drive a kustom cross country, dragging a leash, that would be the one.

Are you sure you spelled it correctly? It looks to me like it should be called "Mark, I missed, and I am sorry".

I would agree that Wilhelm maybe "missed the Mark" with this one ... but that shouldn't diminish his great contributions to this hobby of ours ... check out some of his other creations at Rikster's Fotki website ... just click HERE.

Guys who don't like customs should just not look at them.
None of these photos do the car justice.
And ya had to be there, and actually be open to and LIKE customs.
