    Boot at Diego, July '65
Millington for Avionics and Fire Control A school, October '65 to October '66
Fighter Squadron 13 after that, stationed at Cecil Field, Fl, but deployed on the "Shitty Shang" most of the time, working on F-8 Crusaders, AQF-3, passed the test for E-5, but told them no way I would extend 8 months to put on the second chevron.
Got out in August '68, I was a "Kiddie Cruiser".
BTW, Wz Junk, John, I worked nights most of the time, when we were out to sea. Would have given my eye teeth for some chicken. When they ran out of food during mid-rats (which was quite often), it was always vienna sausages to fill in. I STILL can't stand those little weenies!!

glad you made it back from Nam ok.............yup, the Navarro was my home for 4 yrs,
two weeks out of high school and I thought I needed to see the world... boy,did I do that.
I got out just before the nam deal although we did have troops aboard and Landed them in BK thailand for operations in Lao es.. we were so called advisors at the time, this would have been in 62 when things heated up there..

I had a shipmate that was still aboard the Navarro in 66........his name was Ken Roberts, probably E-7 BM.................he now lives in Fl...

    thanks for your response

I wonder if we ever crossed paths. I was in Millington Avionics at the same time. Can't remember my company though. I was a Kiddie Cruiser that got out in Aug '68 also.

1985-2003 122FW IN Air National Guard Full time PRIME Beef/Civil Engineering Squadron, AF version of SeaBees. You know the Air Force are the ones that sends their officers out to fight ;)

2003-2008 Fort Rucker AL Public Works, Army Civilian

FEB 2008 NAS Whiting Field FL, Navy Civilian, best kept secret in the Navy shhhhhhh, near Pensacola and Eglin AFB so visit once in a while.

The Air Force has the best procedures in my field, Navy is 2nd and the Army is about 12th.

    Should have listed the complete hitch;
BC in San Diego, July '66
FT A school Mare Island Oct '66 thru Feb '68
Seal Beach NWS Feb '68 thru Dec '69
USS Albany Dec '69 thru July '73

  20. Okay, let me rephrase that...Any USS Albany Submarine sailors on here?
They named the later 688's after the old cruisers.
I helped build the Albany as a civilian contractor.
I was just wondering if anyone had found the hidden treasure yet.
Same goes for the Pasadena, we hid all kinds of neat stuff throughout that boat during construction.

  21. E, gawd! I feel ill with all these squids around. So you guys gonna bid for first stint in the HAMB barrel?
O yeah, forgot to ask, any of you find the golden rivet??

I kid cause I care. One of my best mates joined the Navy, he married my sister too, Ill let you guys pick which one upset the family..........

Forgot to mention: While at North Island, was in the same barracks as Dennis Riklefs. I guess the same one, although he wasn't painting as far as I know back then. He had a new -for then- '69 Z28. Faster than shit, and he drove it like he stole it. It was sort of that greenish tan color.

Looks like a lot of Nukes and Bubbleheads, I was an A-ganger on the USS James Monroe (SSBN 622G) from 1982-1986 patrolling out of Holy Loch Scotland.

We had a bunch of hot rodders on the crew. One similarity I always drew between being a submarine mechanic and a hot rodder is that if we didn't have a part we needed we had to make it - no parts stores in the middle of the North Atlantic.
