Haunted Car or What!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy, Aug 15, 2008.

  1. I have been towing my Chevys from the barn area to my new workshop/garage on another part of the property. The first 5 went fairly smooth, then I got to number 6, a 1950 Chevy 2 dr sedan. I was jacking it up in the air, a couple feet high was all, and finished the right side, placing blocks and 4" x 4"'s under it. I moved to the left side and started to jack it up when suddenly the right side dropped and the blocks were disinagrated as if someone had just used a sledge hammer on them (small pieces) W.T.F.? I had to do it over again. Because of missing front steering and suspension I had jacked it up so I could back the narrow flatbed hay trailer under it and chain it down. Then I had to change a back tire, okay I air up a extra tire I had until it was hard. I go to jack up the car and my floor jack won't work, W.T.F.? so I add some more oil to it,not much to speak of and then it starts working again. I change the tire and I let the car down and within a couple minutes the tire goes flat W.T.F.? so I add some more air and hurry into my truck. Next, the car is in neutral and I try to go but that car won't budge and my truck tires start spinning in the dirt W.T.F.? is happening now? I get out and look, who knows? I get in the truck and now it starts to roll, then I get over by the garage area where I want to park this car & suddenly it stops about 10 feet away from where I wanted it and it won't budge, W.T.F.? - anyway I came in the house to take a break and share this adventure. Has anyone else out there had one of these "W.T.F." haunted car deals??? I would like to hear about them. (That car did not want to leave it's resting spot.)

You need to find a car whisperer to walk around that thing, stroke the fenders and talk soothingly to it -- it's obviously had some terrible experiences and is still highly traumatized.

  13. What's odd is the '49 Chevy 4 door sedan that still has a 1956 license plate on it that looks like it got hit by a train (I got it out of a neighbors property a few years ago & yes the RR tracks are about a mile away) That car would be the one I would of expected weird things from.........

If it's really haunted, stand right in front of it and say:
    OK.........SHOW ME
It just might rebuild it self right in front of you...........

Haunted car….yep I got one of those, it’s a 55 chevy more door bel air, are you ready for a novel.
    <O:p</O:p
    <O:p</O:p

Before April 08 I had spent a year/+ redoing the wiring, painting engine compartment and interior with por-15, changed rearends, motor/trans and saving money for parts and other what nots

<O:p</O:pSo April of 08 its time to fire it up and break in the cam……I’ve been waiting for this and im fired up. About 10 minutes into it the head gaskets blow and there’s antifreeze shooting out of the headers…….awesome. I shut it down before the oil was a milk shake and before I thought any damage was done.

<O:p</O:pMay, I get the head gaskets changed, go with the fel-pro’s problem solved. Finish cam break in; get it to the exhaust shop…finally. Pick it up from the exhaust shop and head back to work. I run out of gas around 2 miles from work and about less then a mile from a gas station….hike to the gas station where I was bent over for a 1 gallon gas container….15$ damn. I finally show up at work with the car, end of the day I’m heading back to the car to go home. I notice there’s a little puddle of oil, pop the hood, don’t see any oil anywhere, fire it up and drive the 3 miles home. After an hour of it sitting in the driveway I notice a huge oil puddle. Jump underneath it and found its coming from the old pan, a little research later I discover there’s 2 sizes of oil pan gaskets….guess which one I had, I replace it and problem solved.

<O:p</O:pJune, I drive the 55 to a buddy’s house to return his trans jack he needs for his truck. On the way home it starts making this high pitched squeal noise and starts shifting weird…its only got 100 mile on it, I think “oh I just got antifreeze on the new belts” and I must be low on trans fluid. let it sit over night and fire it the next day…..squeal is still there. I remove the fan belt and the squeal is still there……sweet it’s the brand new TCI (Total Crap Inside) trans or the TCI convertor…….take it out and TCI tells me to basically pound sand, I bought it 15 months earlier and their warranty is 90 days….awesome.

<O:p</O:pJuly, I suck it up and get a new trans from Gearstar install it over 4th of July. And the trans is making a bearing whine noise, right off the batt…..perfect. It went around the block and the noise was bad. Call Gearstar “oh ghee we had a batch of bad Timkin bearings I thought we got them all, send it back we’ll fix it”……awesome I get to take another brand new trans out. I get the trans back stick it in.........problem solved.

<O:p</O:pAugust, first car event it goes to in years is Bad Bob’s Village idiot gathering on Tuesday, have a great time and it runs good to and from there. So I load the family up to head to the Highway 39 car show at Giovanni’s on Thursday, good cars good times. Fire it up to head home and there’s a loud ticking sound coming from the engine its got 500 mile on it at this point, my wife looks at me like, that noise better be normal. I figure someone pulled a joke on me at the show….nope. I Pull the intake and find big/odd wear patterns on a couple lifters……sweet it’s the cam.

<O:p</O:pCurrently, im waiting on a cam from crane cams. Its taking longer then I thought but should have it in this weekend, hopefully run it again next weekend………and get to change something else.

<O:p</O:pSo that’s my haunting novel………I know it’s not karma, damn I’ve never done anything that bad. And I’ve fixed/repaired and turned wrenches on all my friends cars throughout the years…every one of them…..helped make them better and safer for them, with no favors returned….gheez I guess my faith is being tested…….it’ll take a lot more then that to bring me down suckas…….(that last part was meant in jest, not a challenge, please don’t hit me with lightening) <O:p</O:p

I have picture somewhere of my old Galaxie after getting it out after we painted it to store it and let it cure. While my son was driving it into the hangar, my father-in-law snapped a shot. In the left rear quarter window there was a woman's face looking out plain as day. She was smiling, so I guess she liked the paint job and my son. He has had the car up over 120 mph a few times, and no troubles. It almost killed me working on it, so maybe she doesn't like me? I don't know any history on the car, but we had to change out a rotted frame and I did a lot of panel work on it. I thought I had the picture on photobucket, but its not there. The car here, but not the right picture. Its a scanned photo so it probably looks scratchy and it had been raining that day, it probably doesn't do the car justice:

This won't exorcise car ghosts but will save $$$ next time you have a personal energy crisis: Buy a gallon of milk. Drink all the milk you can hold and pour the rest out. Get every drop of milk out (sling it around, etc.) Presto, a one gallon gas can for 3 or 4 dollars. Oh, and don't make it too obvious that you're about to use a "non-approved container" instead of buying their similar item for 4 times the money.

I had a '74 corvette that was haunted.I had to drive it in the winter of '85 .On a clear day I pull out of a parking lot and gave her a little gas ,got a little crossed up and thunk...I hit a guy who was getting into his car...on the other side of the street. He got a banged up knee and I got a ticket for excessive acceleration.Sold the car in '87 to a guy .He was driving it and somehow the steering shaft in the column came apart ,he lost control and hit a telephone pole. That car was evil!!!PAUL

Honestly most my cars Ive owned/own are cursed or haunted in some way. The ones that stick out in my mind are my 70 Chevelle I used to have a and my 50 Ford Club Coupe.
The Chevelle one time started turning over by it self one day when I was ditching high school while I was sitting in it with the keys in my pocket, ignition totally in the off position for starters! I owned it for about 5 years till I sold it to some other kid with mommy's money, who had nothing but problems with it the minute he pulled out of my driveway! (It was my daily driver at the time). From shutting off on him to the starter and solenoid melting (what he claimed) the next day, to it getting hit 3 days later and so on!
The 50 Ford was one another one. I had just sold it to some guy in Germany, I was dropping the car off to his friend's house in the Hollywood area, I had my ex following me so I could have a ride home. Im probably about a 1/8 mile away down the street before I go up the hill, (now keep in mind this car was also a daily driver) it starts sputtering likes its out of gas,(wich it wasnst) and then I had an electrical fire behind the dash as im almost at the guy's house!! So I stop in the middle of the hill, there was smoke buliding up inside the car fast as I had all the windows up becasue it was raining that night (April '05). I was coughing pretty bad, the interior filled up quick, I cant stand the smell of burnt electrical or burnt hair. I disconected the battery let the smoke clear, look under the dash and the main hot wire that was going to the ignition switch started frying and would of probably got the whole harness if I didnt shut it off in time. So luckily I had some extra wire and tools with me, bypassed that wire straight to the battery got it going but none of the gauges worked of course at this point, I wanted to just get out of the middle of the street on a steep hill and rain, with a dumb ex g/f that was freaking out and didnt know what was going on. The guy calls me wondering whats taking so long I told him that I was low in gas and that I had a hard time getting up the hill because it was reallly steep. So he said he would be down with some gas, ( even though it wasnt really low I just went along with it, at this point I didnt know what else to say) so he comes down the curvy old concrete street a lil to fast in his early 90's vette with balding tires loses control and skids into a curb, but surprisingly doesnt blow a tire!! So now I had to help him because it was a stick and he couldnt get traction on the street,so my 200 lb ass had to sit on what little rear deck a Vette has so he can get a little bite on the road, finally he's free,we put gas in the shoebox, I back down the hill in neutral than carefully went up the street in reverse this time, then pulled it in his driveway covered it got the money and never looked back! Coincidence? I dont think so!
