I was hoping to post some in-progress shots for the Merc-Deuce build-off, but I decided to finish this roadster first.
nice roadster!!!! i just got the dropped straight axle under my 29 roadster i'm building. with the kickup in the rear, and the dropped front axle, the car has a perfect rake, and it was totally unexpected. i thought i would need to do some modifying to the front to get it down more, but its right where i wanted it. the car has the wheels and tires from the revell '40 ford, so the rake is totally because of the suspension.
I love seeing that kit de-street rodded. Looks great. I've got a couple things on the bench this weekend but have just been working on the truck for the GG table top.
Haha...wondered if you'd see those. Want em back? There would be sooooooooo much scratch building and they'd have to be perfect replicas to a T.....I'm not ready yet.
Painted this truck, the color looks weird in the pics.. It needs something.. scallops? flames? accents? I'm interested if anyone has ideas.
Pscott and 38chev Nice work! love those colors..look pretty identical! I started a Henry J...actually it was a glue bomb.. i saved...thus why the ch***is needs to be stripped. I need to build up the nose, and finish painting around the window trim..along with rebuilding the windshield divider..that broke off..mysteriously. Hosted on Fotki I wont be using the blue streaks...there to beat up..i know..ironic... by looking at the paint...there oblong...seems every modern mold of the blue streak from AMT was misshaped..early 90's versions were far superior. Just wanted to slam something together in a few hours so i built this!! nothing fancy just a 5 hour or less 32 ford keith
I noticed when comparing the Revell kit that spDDmN has done such a nice job on, with the 60's AMT deuce, that the proportions are totally different. I don't know personally so I'm curious if todays gl*** bodies are similarly shorter and wider in 1:1 scale? I just figured that the earlier AMT version would be more accurate. Believe from the Master Builder series or something like that. I'd have to dig into the REAL old boxes to find out for myself again. Sorry, just wanted to know and I don't get to build much anymore except to get busy during Pinewood Derby seasons. And we Kick Tail at that!!!!
Those AMT kits are horrible for accuracy. They're fun to build and I love getting old built up versions, but I have a hard time building one of them because they are so far off and have no detail. I don't think anything has changed on those kits since their original release to the current releases. Their intended audience (kids) didn't care about accuracy, they just wanted to build a hot rod! Dan....Looks great as is! But if you want to add something, maybe candy lime green or orange/tangerine accents. I can't find a pic. of it, but there's a fairly well known custom '40 (I think) with kind of an ellipse shape on the nose of the hood then tapers back...I don't remember what else was on the car. Maybe white upholstered running boards too (to match the bed cover).
Wow, that's disappointing to here, since the parts interchange so well with other era kits. Back in 4-6grade I built up some of the ole man's unbuilt kits by mixin stuff up. T on A frame. A on deuce frame. Used AMT Revell Monogram IMC's. Guess it all mixes better in scale. I'll make a point of diggin that 60's stuff out and sharing when it gets cold again...
Hey Was looking for a kool thread like this!! I love model cars too hope you would mind if i post a few pics of mine...
Your truck is sharp. Great stance! That's some "high-zoot" paint, and some added zing to the the wheels will perk it up. Beauty rings, chrome rims (with or without baldies), or full wheel covers ('57 Cad?) should do the trick. Some pleats made of half-round might be nice through the center length of the tarp. Nerf bars would also look good. (Ala Kart? AMT '40?)
